So I went into NYC today to donate dresses to a great cause and to say hi to Ashley. Ashley was at Saks Fifth Avenue, The fifth ave flagship store that’s located right next to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and across the street from Rockefeller Center, to encourage people to come out and to give gently used formal dresses to donatemydress.org.
According to the site’s stated purpose on their website:
DonateMyDress.org is the first national campaign designed to encourage girls around the country to donate their prom and special occasion dresses to those who cannot afford to finance the costly experience of going to their prom, sweet 16, quinceañera or formal on their own. The site features a directory of local dress drive organizations across the U.S. that will enable girls to easily find out where in their local markets they can donate a dress or receive one.
Ashley got involved with the group since she knew what it was like to struggle to pay for formal wear.
Anyway, I got there and met up with folks from Twicon, Twilight Live, and Twilight Moms (*waves hi*). After standing on line for like two hours we got to donate our items and chat with Ashley.
One of the funniest moments had to be when a Saks employee came down the waiting line and asked, “Is there anyone here who just wants to drop off a dress, and not see Ashley?” We were good, we didn’t laugh in her face. However after she left we were all like “Is she nuts!?” Plus, I think I can safely speak for most of us on the line when I say that we CLEARLY were not regular Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store clientele. Let’s face that most upscale thing anyone was wearing was an Abercrombie sweatshirt. I think I can pretty much guarantee that we wouldn’t have been there otherwise. Kudos to Saks on the first floor staff and the staff running the event all of whom were really friendly. The rest of the staff seemed to be channeling the dress shop employees from the movie Pretty Women. Unfortunately, Richard Gere was no place to be found to demand serious groveling.
So I donated my haul having cleaned out both my closet and my sister’s closet, and then I said hi to Ashley and asked her a quick question. I knew I’d only get one, and given the recent photos of the cast with Nikki, Ashley, Taylor, and now Jackson in wigs I knew what I wanted to ask.
I asked her, “How is it now having wig buddies on the set?”
It took her a second to get what I was asking and she laughed and said, “Oh my God! Now they know my pain! But the good thing is my wig this time is more comfortable.” Then she added, “The guys are the worst about the wigs, they are so funny. (She mimes pulling on the wig and fidgeting) Jackson has one too since his real hair is in a Mohawk for The Last Airbender.
There was a variety of of press there, look for upcoming coverage, and Ashley will be on Good Day New York on Monday.
