Breaking Dawn Holding Its Own on Worst Box Office Weekend in Three Years

According to CBS News:

“The audience certainly is available. Unfortunately, they have not come out in the numbers they have in the past,” said Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros., which released “New Year’s Eve,” whose cast includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Hilary Swank and Jessica Biel. “I’m hoping this is just a glitch, and starting next weekend, the box-office will expand.”

Next weekend begins Hollywood’s end-of-year blockbuster frenzy, with the debuts of Robert Downey Jr.’s “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” and the family sequel “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.”

Charlize Theron’s comic drama “Young Adult” goes wide after starting in limited release this past weekend, while Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” launches in huge-screen IMAX theaters before expanding to general release the following week.

Studio bosses generally blame bad weekends on bad movies. Yet while critics trashed “New Year’s Eve” and “The Sitter,” a lineup of well-reviewed, seemingly must-see family films that include “The Muppets,” “Arthur Christmas” and “Hugo” so far have done modest business at best.

At No. 1 the last three weekends was “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” whose audience is mainly women. “Breaking Dawn” fell to No. 3 this weekend with $7.9 million, raising its domestic total to $259.5 million.

Behind “Breaking Dawn” has been that rush of family flicks, with nothing fresh out there on the action front in more than a month.

“That has created a major vacuum in the marketplace, not serving that bread-and-butter audience of Hollywood,” Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian said.

As you can see in the above chart from Box Office Mojo, Breaking Dawn is strongly holding on to its position of the number three movie of the year. It’s unlikely that it will overtake either the number one or number two slot, but depending if Summit pulls its box office run early for a Valentine’s Day DVD release (the other films had until mid March) It will probably cap out in the 280 million range.

Breaking dawn will certainly not drop out of the top ten. the question is can any of the Christmas blockbusters like the next Sherlock Holmes installment overtake it.

Michael Sheen Supports UK Salvation Army Christmas Drive

Michael Sheen is lending his name to the efforts of the Salvation Army in the UK. According to their press release:

Award-winning actor Michael Sheen has shared his favourite childhood Christmas present with The Salvation Army.

Currently appearing on stage in Hamlet at the Young Vic, Michael has taken time out of his busy schedule to reflect on past Christmas gifts – as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal.

Best known for his performances in Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Frost/Nixon, The Damned United and The Queen, Michael said: “One year when I was 7 or 8, we had Christmas at my grandmother’s house, which I loved. I got an astronaut outfit and never took it off.”

Major Ray Irving, Territorial Social Services Secretary said: “Michael has proved he is a true star by brightening up our Christmas Present Appeal and sharing this special memory.

“The Salvation Army has a long history of offering practical support to people who are vulnerable or in need. This year, more children than ever before could face an empty space under the Christmas tree and we’re determined to stop that from happening – especially when just one present can make all the difference to a child.”

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal relies on the generosity of others who are able to buy an extra gift for children aged 0-16. The presents can be dropped off unwrapped at local Superdrug stores or Salvation Army halls and centres from now until 16 December.

Salvation Army volunteers will then wrap the gifts and ensure they reach a needy child or young person this Christmas thanks to The Salvation Army’s own networks, local groups and social services.

Breaking Wind Parody Releases Video

The last time we had a movie parody it was Vampires Suck that mostly concentrated on a Twilight specific parody. Now we have a film that initially looked to parody New Moon and instead held out to do Breaking Dawn

We first got wind of this parody back in August. (Sorry couldn’t resist the pun). According to Moviehole:

Writer/director Craig Moss, best known for the recent spoof “The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It”, is sharpening his fangs, flipping up his black collar, ready to sink his teeth into a “Twilight” pisstake.

A film Moss planned to shoot back in the Summer of 2010, then known as “Fully Mooned”, has been set from pause to play. Only now, it’s got a new title. And a home.

Moss is directing “Breaking Wind”, a fun-poke at the hugely successful young teen movie series, for Stonebrook (“Pennhurst”, “Open House”). The title is of course taking the mickey itself; the latest “Twilight” flick is “Breaking Dawn”, released in November….The script for this one, penned by Moss, tells of a young woman named Stella who is forced to choose between ”egocentric” vampire Edward and ”horny” werewolf Jacob. Whichever boy can satisfying Stella’s more intimate needs gets the gig. Expect plenty of jokes that won’t be suitable for the younger of Taylor Lautner’s fans…”

Now the first teaser is out (WARNING: Humor in the style of the movie The Hangover. Borderline PG-13/R, possibly not work appropriate depending where you work.)

Ashley Greene Loved Breaking Dawn Stunt Work

Who can forget Alice battling the CGI wolves! Looks like Ashley Greene enjoyed the experience according to an interview in Company Magazine.

On the difficulty of making it in Hollywood:
“It has always been hard, but it is now very competitive. It’s hard to break out, and it is still hard for me – I am fighting for my next job. Nothing is set in stone. So you have to really love acting to go through that grind every day. But once you get a role, it’s worth it.”

On her dream role:
“A couple of projects have caught my eye. I want to do another action film because I had a ton of fun when we did stunt work [on Breaking Dawn]. We did fight training and personal training – we worked our butts off and pretty much did every stunt we possibly could ourselves.”

Casey Labow Hints at Denali Clan’s Breaking Dawn Part 2 Look

In Speaking to InStyle at a 3 X 1 Bspoke Jeans events Casey Labow said :

“We were very furs and leather—the Denali clan is like the fancy coven,” she said. “We were all fly.”

At the event, Casey made a pair of jeans, according to InStyle:

We followed Breaking Dawn star Casey LaBow as she designed a pair of made-to-order jeans at Manhattan’s 3×1 atelier. Founded by Paper, Denim & Cloth and Earnest Sewn denim guru Scott Morrison, the 4,000 sq. ft. design studio offers limited edition, custom and bespoke jeans. LaBow was particularly qualified to play designer—aside from spending her pre-actress days working as a stylist’s assistant…
