Twilight Saga Graphic Novels Cover Side-By-Side Comparison

Check out what happens when you line up the covers of The Twilight: Graphic Novel Volume 1 with the newly released image of Volume 2. What do you think of the art by Young Kim picking up on Stephenie Meyer’s description? Do you like the idea of the meadow scene being on the cover?

Twilight: The Graphic Novel Volume 2 Gets Official Release Date

This just in from Little Brown:

Yen Press, the graphic novel imprint of Hachette Book Group, announced that it will publish the eagerly-awaited second volume in the graphic novel adaptation of  Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight on October 11, 2011.  Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 2 will be released as an e-book and in hardcover for $19.99 ($22.99 CAN) with a first printing of 350,000 copies.

A visually arresting retelling of the story that has captured the hearts and minds of countless fans, Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 2 contains selected text from Meyer’s original novel with illustrations by the talented Korean artist Young Kim.  Kim’s unique artistic style which combines Asian and Western comic techniques are showcased in this black-and-white graphic novel with color interspersed throughout.  Meyer consulted throughout the artistic process and had input on every panel.

“Knowing how beautifully Young Kim rendered the Twilight universe in the first volume, I couldn’t wait for this next one,” remarked Meyer.  “Her illustrations of characters and settings gorgeously capture the world and are very close to what I saw in my mind’s eye while writing Twilight.”

Kurt Hassler, Yen Press Publishing Director, commented, “The first volume of the Twilight graphic novel was an utter phenomenon in the category, and the reception by Stephenie’s fans was absolutely overwhelming. It’s an incredible testament to the collaboration between Stephenie and Young Kim, and we cannot wait to be able to put the second volume into the readers’ hands!”

Fandom Flashback!

In the various opportunities we’ve had over the years to talk to and meet with fans around the country, we find that most of them became fans because of their interest in the movies.  Many of you saw the movie and then read the books and fell in love with the series on a whole other level. But those of you that came into the fandom after the movies missed out on some of the most unique experiences the fandom had to offer.

We are going to start a series called “Fandom Flashback” where we will be talking about events and experiences that happened in the early days of the fandom. This will allow long time fans a chance to chime in and share photos and experiences. It also gives you newer fans a chance to take a peek at some of the things you might have missed along the way. Since this fandom has been going strong for over five years, we really do want and need your feedback to help us being this series to life.

We plan on featuring experiences like E-Prom, trips to Forks, book release parties, early casting drama, Twilight bands and playlist hype, and many more! If you have a good idea for us to discuss, we want to hear about it! What experiences have you heard about – or even heard rumors about – that you’d like to see featured in a possible Fandom Flashback? Let us know in the comments.

For our first Fandom Flashback, we will be talking about the early days of book signings with Stephenie Meyer. If you went to one of the first book signing, we want to hear from you! Personally, I never made it to a Twilight book signing. I went to a few for New Moon, but I missed out on those small gatherings known as the “I Love Edward Cullen” parties! If you were around when Twilight first came out and were able to attend one of those very first signings with Stephenie, we need your input! Log in and leave a comment below with a quick summary of where you went for your signing and we will contact you for more details!

We really would like this to be a feature driven by the fans! Your input is vital, so let us know what you want to see and talk about. We’re looking forward to hearing your stories and sharing in some fun and entertaining memories.

Many thanks to OpenHome for the button!

Kellan Lutz Invites You To Become Immortal

Not quite a vampire, but not a bad offer:

Do you have what it takes to be a Greek God or Goddess? If so, then Relativity Media – the studio behind the visually spectacular 3D action adventure Immortals – wants you to sign up right away! Exclusively offered via Facebook today, the Relativity-Archaia Immortals promotion sponsored by Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination, will crown the winners on July 1 with a king’s ransom-worth of prizes, including a grand prize where contest winners will be immortalized as graphic novel characters with the “reveal” taking place at the Archaia panel during Comic-Con in a special photo-op ceremony. Winners will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to San Diego to attend the 2011 Comic-Con International. The package includes airfare, hotel accommodations, and exclusive access to special Immortals events throughout the convention.

Entrants will share their reasons why they are the perfect candidate to become the Greek God (Apollo) or Goddess (Artemis) via the Facebook application form. The top-10 entries (five women and five men) with the most “Likes” at the end of the contest period will be asked to submit “authentic” audition tapes for the roles to Relativity Media. The film’s celebrated Director Tarsem Singh will select his two favorites (one man, one woman) and they will be crowned the winners.

Relativity Media and graphic novel publisher Archaia Entertainment, LLC formed a publishing partnership to produce and publish a hardcover graphic novel anthology based upon Relativity’s upcoming epic motion picture Immortals, which stars Henry Cavill (Superman: Man of Steel), Luke Evans (Robin Hood), Kellan Lutz (Twillight), Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), and Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2).

Archaia will release the Immortals: Gods and Heroes graphic novel in September, serving as a prelude to the 3D motion picture, which releases worldwide on November 11, 2011. The graphic novel will expand upon the film’s key characters and events through a series of original tales written and illustrated by some of the top names in comics, including David Mack (Kabuki), Ron Marz (Witchblade), Dennis Calero (Dark Tower) and Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night). The graphic novel will be published through Archaia’s Black Label division, a publishing pipeline dedicated to working alongside creative professionals within the entertainment industry eager to launch and expand their brands in the publishing world.

Directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and written by Charles Parlapanides and Vlas Parlapanides, Immortals also stars Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies) and John Hurt (Hellboy).

The 3D epic is produced by Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300), and Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter), and will be distributed by Relativity Media worldwide. In the UK, Australia, and certain other territories, distribution is in association with Universal Pictures International. In Immortals, the ruthless King Hyperion (Rourke) leads his bloodthirsty army on a murderous rampage across Greece to find a deadly weapon that will destroy humanity. A mortal chosen by Zeus named Theseus (Cavill) must lead the fight against Hyperion and his evil army with the fate of mankind and the Gods at stake.

Rob Lowe Remembers Being in Taylor Lautner’s Shoes

Taylor-and-Rob-LoweBack in the 1980’s ago if you wanted heartthrob it was all about what Hollywood writers dubbed “The Brat Pack”. They were the sexy, too cool bad boys we all wanted to save. Right at the head of that pack was Rob Lowe who was everyone’s favorite bad boy on and off screen. Not that I personally remember any of this, or used to be wrapped up in his relationship with Melissa Gilbert the way folks are with Robsten today, or even had Oxford Blues and St. Elmo’s Fire posters on my wall or anything…but I digress. Anyway, Rob Lowe just published his autobiography on how he survived this rapid rise to fame, how he crashed and burned, and then how he can back. While talking to the UK Telegraph, Rob relates how a chance encounter with Taylor Lautner brought some uncomfortable memories from his teens and 20’s back:

“Rob Lowe recently found himself at an American football game with Taylor Lautner, the 19-year-old star of the Twilight films.

Both actors are fans of the Indianapolis Colts and were invited by the Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, to attend one of the play-offs.

Sitting together in an open box, with a group of people, they soon found themselves surrounded by a mob of teenage girls. ‘They were coming up to the box and literally staring at him,’ Lowe recalls. ‘Some were screaming. Others took his picture. Others were like this…’

Lowe gets up, walks over and plants his face a few inches from mine, his fists clenched, his eyes boring into me, like a Maori doing the Haka.

‘It was all I could bear to watch,’ he says, retaking his seat. ‘It actually made me really emotional, seeing him struggle with it. He’s such a lovely kid, he’s even younger than I was. It has nothing to do with you. Every generation there’s That Guy. And sometimes there’s three in a generation, or four, but somebody’s got to be That Guy. I was That Guy.’ “

Tyler Posey Was Once In The Running For Jacob Black.

Tyler Posey(see above in character make-up) is the star of MTV’s upcoming Teen Wolf series. The New York Times has a rather long feature on this project that is peppered with Twilight references ( a lot of them are the typical angst ridden, abstinence, morality tale comments that fans are used to seeing). Nonetheless, after this very long article which makes some conclusions about Twilight fans and werewolf loving cross-over series that may or may not be true, this gem pops up:

“The one interesting thing I know about Posey is that he was, at one point, close to landing the role of Jacob, the werewolf in the “Twilight” movies. He confirms this, then adds that he was only 16 when it happened, that he was more into hanging out with his friends than acting back then, that he’s not bitter about how it all went down. But when he actually explains how it all went down, another story comes out.

Posey is from Valencia, Calif.; for a long time, he thought he was the only actor in town. Then this kid, Taylor Lautner, moved to Valencia. Another actor. (“His name’s Taylor, my name’s Tyler,” Posey says.) Lautner started dating a girl in Posey’s neighborhood, a girl Posey was into. They started running into each other at auditions. And then one day, after Posey was told the “Twilight” job was his to lose, and then lost it, he ran into Lautner again, and Lautner told him he was just back from Oregon. Where he’d been shooting “Twilight.”

Come on, I say. It sounds as if he’s your nemesis. You have to hate that guy a little bit.

“Just a little bit,” Posey admits. “Yeah, of course.”

I say, that’s what this is all about, isn’t it? This is your revenge. You’re doing this show to make people forget Taylor Lautner ever existed.

“I’m the new werewolf in town, man,” Posey says. “Watch out.”

See more on The New York Times.

So what do you think, would Tyler Posey have been a good Jacob Black?

Breaking Dawn Column Debuts at Movies.com

Hi All,

I just wanted to let everyone know about a new feature over at Movies.Com.  Movies.com has made the unique choice of letting the fans of some major franchises write about the movies that they love. It’s really a great concept because fans want insight and perspective that most entertainment sites can’t provide because their reporters have to focus on tons of properties rather than just getting to know one really well. So, I’m happy to report that I’ll be taking on the Breaking Dawn column. It’s also a really cool opportunity for me to editorialized on different angles of the franchise, and to pull in material to create a story that takes in multiple factors, which is a little different than what we do here on a daily basis.

I really hope you’ll like the first column which was assigned as an intro-type item that would talk about the casting of the film. In other columns, I’ll be able to branch out into other areas and discuss what’s on your and other fans’ minds. So please head on over to Movies.com and check out the column. Please leave me some comments over there so I know what you as the fans want to hear about next. I’m leaning towards an MTV Movies Awards column next, but I want to hear your thoughts. Your voice is really important! Check out The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Countdown: The Veterans Meet the Denalis here

Hope you like it!

Laura (AKA Pel)

P.S. Here are the other franchises that they are covering from this angle. Be sure to check them out if you are a fan!
