The Making of a Parody: Behind the Scenes With Hillywood

We’ve had the opportunity to get to know the whole crew over at The Hillywood Show. The work that they put into their parodies is amazing, with attention to detail that is second to none. We’ve actually seen them discussing how the buttons on a certain costume had to be adjusted to be exactly right.

Because the production value of their videos is so high, people aren’t often aware of a number of things:

  • The Hillywood Show isn’t funded or sponsored by any organization. Anything they do comes out of their own pockets. Their chief source of fundraising is the tee shirts, photos, etc. that they sell on the convention circuit.
  • They do everything with ONE… that’s right…ONE camera. So all those varied camera angles you see in their videos are the result of multiple takes since they can only shoot one angle at a time.
  • Hannah does most of the directing and shooting when not appearing in videos ( Papa Hillywood takes over camera duties when Hannah and Hillary are on screen at the same time). Hillary does most of the editing. They don’t have a huge post production studio. They have a MAC.
  • Their costumes are designed and made by their grandmother(who has worked for years in the costume departments for Las Vegas casinos) and recently John Henson( the Twilight costume collector) has also helped with the designs.
  • All performers in their videos are volunteers. They are not paid an appearance fee for their services. Their crew consists of Hannah, Hillary, Mom Hillywood, Dad Hillywood, Grandma Hillywood with sometimes assistance of family friends like Drew. That’s it! There is no large staff. For the most part it is a two person operation taking care of most of the details.
  • Many of the locations they use are the result of people allowing them to film their for free because they believe in their work.
  • So please check out this behind the scenes look at what the Eclipse parody was like at the Caesar’s Palace location. In the first video they battle heat and wigs that won’t stay put. The second is our favorite as the crew battles wind and a fog machine that won’t cooperate!

Washington News Covers the Quileuete Nation Tsunami Concerns

We told you about the concerns the Quileuete Nation has regarding Tsunamis. Anyone who has ever visited La Push can’t but help to have noticed the tsunami evacuation route signage. Now local Washington State news crews are also covering the story.

Tribal Chairwoman Cleveland has asked help from the American public. Cleveland says, “The introduction of the legislation is just the first step. We need the support of the American public to get this legislation passed. Please…contact your legislators and ask them to support the Quileute Tsunami Protection legislation. The Quileute Tribe is grateful for your support.”

Funny or Die: When Harry Met Sally Meets Twilight

Many of you may be familiar with the Funny or Die website that spoofs ongoing news stories, actors lives, etc. in a very irreverent and hilarious way (two of our favorites are Alyssa Milano spoofing Snooki and Jerry O’Connell spoofing Charlie Sheen). So this time out Twilight is their target and it features Billy Crystal and Helen Mirren among others. Warning: mature language and dark comedy.

Interview with Leah Gibson: Nettie from Eclipse

Of all the opportunities that come our way over the years in working in the fandom, some of our favorite moments come when we have an opportunity to interview the cast members while at the conventions.  In Nashville last month, we had the chance to talk with Leah Gibson, who played Nettie in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  This was Leah’s first time at The Creation Entertainment Official Twilight Convention, so we jumped at the chance to talk to her.  While we were in the middle of the interview, our camera died!  (That’s what happens when your kids get their hands on your equipment and you forget to switch the batteries!) After much apologizing, a second camera was retrieved by Shelley (Something Blue) and we continued with the interview.

We had a great time getting to know Leah and we thank her for taking the time to talk to us, technical difficulties and all!  And we thank Creation Entertainment for allowing us to film this and bring it to all of you.

You can follow Leah Gibson on twitter at @LeahDianeGibson

Judi Shehkoni Interviewed By The Twilight Examiner

The Twilight Examiner has an exclusive interview with Judi Shekoni who plays Zafrina in Breaking Dawn:

“You were a fan of the Twilight series before you got the role of Zafrina in Breaking Dawn, so when you read the series, did you picture yourself as any of the characters?

Yep, I was a fan. Well, when you read a book you always see yourself as being the character that is telling the story so I guess I lived all the books as Bella, but thinking about it I would have made a very strange and unusual Bella!

Did being a fan make auditioning for the role that much more intimidating or was it easier because you had confidence in your knowledge of the story?

I felt more confident than usual because of my knowledge of the story and the characters; Twilight has a definite feel and style to it that would be hard to pick up from one scene.  I felt I was already inside the world and had lived the lives so I definitely felt I had a good advantage!”
