Catherine Hardwicke To Give Workshop

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke will be giving a workshop for filmmakers called The Art of Prep: Directing Workshop. It is a 75-minute seminar in the Vancouver area and will cover a variety of topics.

Hardwicke also will discuss her experience directing Twilight, the vampire blockbuster that grossed $69.6 million on opening weekend — the highest opening ever for a film by a female director.

“I’ll talk about how we prepped the treetop sequence and the seven different locations we used to film that — what was the first unit shot, what was the second unit shot, what did Rob [Pattinson] and Kristen [Stewart] do, where we put the platform.”

Hardwicke, who began her career in Hollywood as a production designer, said she developed her techniques through trial and error, a year of schooling at the University of California, Los Angeles, and watching and working with a number of “awesome directors” including Cameron Crowe, David Russell and Lisa Cholodenko.

“Being a production designer, I was a department head right in there with them, next to them, coming up with ideas, pitching, running through rehearsals with them,” she said.

“I saw a variety of directors’ techniques and then on each movie I used what seemed to work best for that film.”

Changing the Look A Little

Hi All,

Recently we changed the website’s style to allow for a bigger center content container to allow for the larger size being required for video content and the ads that keep us up and running. We’ve had to make some other changes along those lines.

You’re probably looking at the front page and saying “OK something is different here.” With the impeding volume of Breaking Dawn news that is soon to start coming in, much of which tends to be video and photo content, we really need to make sure our site loads quickly. Part of the new style lets the page load faster and then you can get to the story that most interests you quicker. It also, to be honest, helps us with our productivity and that in turn helps us bring you the coverage that you want.

Hopefully, you’ll get used to the change. Thanks for coming here for your Twilight News, and we’ll keep striving to give you the stories that you are looking for.

Collider Talks to the Breaking Dawn Special Effects Team

Phil Tippet and company are back again for Breaking Dawn. Collider had the opportunity to slip in some Breaking Dawn questions while talking to Tippet and crew about another project. Collider writes:

Earlier today I got to talk with Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett and John Rosengrant about their amazing work on Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. They were talking to the press this morning to help promote the October 25th Blu-ray release. While I’ll have the full interview online next month, for all you Twilight fans, I was able to ask Tippett and Rosengrant about their involvement in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Check out the video. Tippet is a Hollywood SFX legend and he gives high praise to Bill Condon!

Breaking Dawn Cast Heading to Italy

The Italian Twilight Moms alerted us to this one. According to the group organizing the event:

Just as in previous editions, “Twilight” fans will not be disappointed. The Alice nella città section will be organizing a major event that has to do with books and cinema for the theatrical release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I.

The audience will get the chance to meet some of the film’s main actors – including two members of the Cullen family, the vampires Rosalie and Jasper Hale (played by Nikki Reid and Jackson Rathbone). Moreover they will see clips from the film, to be released on the 16th of November, and will have the opportunity to attend readings of excerpts from Stephanie Meyer’s book. Once more in the Alice nella città section there will also be a screening of Little Glory, Vincent Lanoo’s fourth feature film. The movie tells the story of the nineteen year old Shawn, played by Cameron Bright, the young Canadian actor who played a major role in the past in the Twilight saga.
