Vote for the Twilight Saga in Moviefone’s Summer Sequel Smackdown

Summer Sequel Smackdown

Moviefone is hosting the Summer Sequel Smackdown pitting popular fantasy film sequels against each other until a champion is crowned.

Here’s how it will break down:

1. Every week for the month of May, fans can vote in our bracketed tournament to support their favorite fantasy sequels.

2. Only the highest ranked will advance onto the quarter-finals, semi-finals, etc.

3. At the end of the month, one movie will stand tall as the undisputed greatest fantasy sequel of all time –as voted by the people.

4. YOU CAN ONLY VOTE ONCE in each round. So if you really want to rally around a movie to win, you have to share and encourage your friends to vote too.

5. Each voting round runs from Monday to Sunday. The next Monday will reveal who advances onto the next round.

6. Once the top fantasy sequel is named at the end of May, it will move on to our end-of-summer grand finale, where it will compete against the top-voted sci-fi, action and comic book sequels to name the best sequel of all time.

In this first round New Moon takes on Order of the Phoenix, Eclipse is against The Return of the King, Breaking Dawn Part 1 is against Deathly Hallows Part 1, and Breaking Dawn Part 2 takes on The Half Blood Prince. There are other options as well, but knowing the voting power of the Twilight Fandom, I’m sure we can manage to get a film all the way to the end.  You can vote once for each duo, which allows you to vote for each Twilight Saga film in this first round.  So our goal this week is to encourage all of the fans to vote for each film in this first round.

Video: Everything Wrong with Twilight

We found this video and thought we’d share it with everyone. It’s a little rough with the language, so take that as a warning. And if you have a problem with anyone making fun of your fandom, then this might not be for you. However, we thought it was funny. There is a whole series of these videos that take on The Hunger Games, Dark Knight, and even The Avengers. And if you have time, I encourage you to check out the Les Mis video that these folks put together. But for now, here’s everything wrong with Twilight in 6 minutes.

Taylor Lautner Wins Best Shirtless Performance at MMA

Bringing home the one and only award for Breaking Dawn Part 2, Taylor Lautner won for Best Shirtless Performance at the MTV Movie Awards. He stepped onstage and accepted his award looking very different from his usual self with a pillow stuffed in his shirt to make it appear as if he’d let himself go. Well played, Taylor!

Fans Boycott MTV Movie Awards

robert-pattinson-kristen-stewart-best-kissTwilight Fans have always looked forward to the MTV Movie Awards. After winning 15 MTV Movie Awards and having swept the Best movie and Best Kiss categories for the last several years, fans expected several nominations as well as a sweep again this year. But as most of you know, Breaking Dawn Part 2 was snubbed out of all nominations except for Best Shirtless Performance for Taylor Lautner… and he only takes his shirt off once in this film!

As an answer to the snub, Twilight fans are encouraged to skip the awards this year, even though Taylor Lautner will be at the ceremony. Instead, we ask that you watch Breaking Dawn Part 2 and jump on twitter to tell the world your feelings. Use the hashtag #BreakingDawnPart2Night every time you tweet.

So… are you skipping the awards this year?  Let us know in the comments.

Video: Twilight in Volterra

The filmmakers that brought us Twilight in Forks have just released a new video called Twilight in Volterra.  Here is the full information:

With the release of the Breaking Dawn Part 2 movie and DVD, fans of Stephenie Meyer’s beloved Twilight Saga have been left thirsting for more of her fantastic world of romance and fantasy. Now fans can rejoice with the release of Twilight in Volterra: set in the real town of Volterra, a sparkling gem nestled in the Tuscan hills of Italy, this documentary explores the locations Meyer so carefully describes in the Twilight books.  Twilight in Volterra (www.twilightinvolterra.com) is available worldwide.

Four-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Jason Brown takes you in stunning HD through this beautiful Italian town in Tuscany.  Fans can visit the spot where Edward nearly took his own life to save Bella, and drive in real time with Alice and Bella on their frantic dash through the Italian countryside to rescue him. See the beautiful and formidable Piazza dei Priori clock tower strike noon, the Palazzo Viti, which marks the seat of power for the mysterious vampire Volturi, and hear their historical secrets revealed by Volterra locals.

Viewers will gain new admiration for the accuracy with which Stephenie Meyer brought this town to life, even though she had never set foot in Volterra before penning New Moon.  From the hints at magic and mystery on every corner to the fascinating traditions of the residents, Volterra is revealed as the perfect setting for vampire lore.  It’s the glamorous world of Twilight like you’ve never seen it before – even in the Twilight movies, which were not shot in the real Volterra but two hours away in Montepulciano!

Produced by Jason Brown and York Baur, this family-friendly documentary is a must-have for Twilight fans of all ages.  If you enjoyed Twilight in Forks and Destination Forks, Twilight in Volterra is a must-have to complete your collection.  It is available on DVD at Amazon.com, for download on Apple’s iTunes and Amazon’s Instant Video services, and on-demand through the Comcast, Xfinity, Cox, and Time Warner, and Bright House cable television networks.  For more information, visit www.twilightinvolterra.com, and join the conversation on Facebook at www.facebook.com/twilightinvolterra.  Members of the press can download the Twilight in Volterra backgrounder and request interviews at www.twilightinvolterra.com/contact.html

Stephenie Meyer Interview in Vulture

Stephenie Meyer talked to Vulture.

But you look fabulous now! You’re camera ready.
Oh, thank you! But I don’t feel camera ready. I was doing Good Morning America, and they had this show beforehand, have you heard of this thigh gap thing? It’s like this new obsession with young girls, being so skinny that their thighs don’t touch, and there’s a gap there, and the bigger the gap, the more excited they are. They post pictures on Tumblr, and they’re starving themselves, becoming anorexic to do this. And they’re already so thin. So in a world like that, do you ever feel … ? I mean, girls that are size one already feel too heavy. And so I always feel bad on camera, which I probably shouldn’t. I should just embrace it. But I see pictures of myself, and my stomach just drops: “Oh, do I really look like that?” Ugh, it’s hard.

Did writing this and producing the film help cure any post-Twilight depression you might have had?
I totally thought that was going to be a thing! I waited for it, and when it didn’t happen, I thought, Oh, it’s because we still have all this stuff ahead. We got to the last premiere, and it didn’t hit. I felt nothing but relief. Analyzing that since then, I feel like it was because I was ready to walk from that world. I don’t miss the characters. Now, I may someday feel like, “Oh, I miss Bella. I want to hang out with Alice” or something. But right now, I’m happy it was what it was, I’m happy to be done with it, and I don’t feel any depression about it, which is nice. And it is nice to have another world to be excited about.

You’re expanding this world into a trilogy?
I’m working on a second book, we’ll see where it ends. I hate to predict anything, even if I have this great outline. You know how they say if you go one degree off, by the time you get to Iceland, you’re 5,000 miles away from where you intended to be? I do that in writing all the time, one little degree change and there goes your ending!

Review of The Host by Three Fans of the Novel

Three fans of The Host (the novel) and Twilight (the books and movies) reviewed The Host over on Hypable. Our opinions were mixed. If we had to give the film letter grades we gave the movie an A, B, and C.

We all liked the way the script was close to the novel, and thought the performances especially by Saoirse Ronan, William Hurt, and Chandler Canterbury were outstanding. We also felt like the Melanie and Jared relationship had chemistry and was plausible. Additionally, the heavy voiceover worked and was timed with perfect facial reaction. We didn’t mind the contacts on Saoirse Ronan, we felt her facial reactions weren’t compromised. We also liked the humorous and snarky tone overall.

On the other hand, we disliked the movie stylization of the Seekers both the shiny silver vehicles, the white costuming, and strange footwear, as well as the perfume atomizer-like sprays. There was also a key moment when we felt Diane Kruger’s seeker was out of character in her actions in a scene with a gun. We also felt the Ian and Wanda relationship was rushed, that the time frame was too compacted. Check out what each person had to say.
