Twilight Shopping Guide for Black Friday

If you’re looking for some great gifts for yourself or for the Twilight fan in your home, we have a list of gift possibilities for Black Friday.

Hot Topic’s t-shirts are $10 today! They have several Breaking Dawn related Tees.  We’ve had e-mails from various fans that they are having difficulty finding the shirts in the Hot Topic stores.  Try shopping on line given that the shirts are discounted today!  Hot Topic also sells some of the replica jewelry from the films.  Here’s Renesmee’s bracelet that Jacob gave to her at Christmas.

If you’re looking for something new to read, try The Twilight Saga: The Complete Film Archive.  The book is like a scrap book with all kids of little pieces to pull out and look at.  There are bits of scripts and character sketches as well as photos from premieres!  You might find yourself in the book!  It’s hard back, so it will be sure to last.  I’ve see a lot of Twilight Books in my day and this one really surprised me with how detailed and comprehensive it was.  And it was just fun to open up all the little envelopes and see what surprises were inside!  It’s running at $19.99 on Amazon today.

Cafe Press has a whole Breaking Dawn Part 2 Shop where you can find shirts, bags, iPhone cases, and so much more!  Most of their items are on sale today.  If you are looking for something a little different, then Cafe Press probably has it.  Most of these items are fan created, so they tends to be a little more original than what you will find in a department store.  If you’ve ever won a tote bag from the Lexicon, chances are it was a Cafe Press bag.  The design below is one I found from the front page of the Twilight store and features Twilight memories in general.  It would a great gift for the fan who has done it all!

Before there was even a hint at a viable movie, Infinite Jewelry was producing the Bella’s Bracelet ™ and Bella’s Engagement Ring®. The engagement ring comes in yellow gold (just like the book description) and also white gold. There are various versions of the ring ranging from a fashion edition all the way to a fine (real gold) and genuine (real gold and real diamonds) editions.  There are other versions of these products by other vendors, but we personally like this one better. One, the ring is more subtle than the version from the movie which we feel practically swallows your whole knuckle. Two, the wolf carving on the bracelet is the most intricate we’ve, seen and was done by consulting with Stephenie Meyer. In our opinion, it’s hard to go wrong when Stephenie consulted on the design.

If you have a doll collector in your house and want to give an amazing gift, try a doll from Tonner Dolls.  They have several in their Twilight collection including Bella in her Wedding Dress.  This particular doll runs for $199, but Tonner Dolls are known to increase in value once the items are sold out.

If your doll collector wants something in a more affordable price range, there is always Barbie!  The wedding day Bella is sold out according to Barbie’s official site.  But I did see one in Target the other day, so if you want one, you best buy one now!  They do have some dolls that I’ve never seen in the store though.  How about Esme or Carlisle?  And they have a vampire Bella and Edward set listed a s”coming soon.”

Peter Facinelli Sounds Off on BD2 Battle Scene – SPOILERS

OhMyCarlisle (aka Amy Taylor) –  This one is for you!

Massive spoilers!

Not even kidding!

Look away now!

We can’t even start this story without spoiler warnings, and those of your who have seen the films know exactly why.  The Inquisitor has an interview with Peter Facinelli and they ask him specifically about that moment.

Please, don’t read any further if you haven’t seen the film!  PLEASE!

You know, THAT moment.  When Carlisle’s head is in Aro’s hands.  Here is what Papa Cullen had to say about his initial reaction to reading the scene in the script.

“Well, when I first read it in the script, I was bummed, because I thought that was it for me! I was like, ‘I don’t get to do any action this time around? I love action!’ Eclipse was one of my favorite movies to do because I got to roll up Carlisle’s sleeves and do action. But then after I read it all the way through, I knew it was going to shock the audience and I couldn’t wait to see their response to this. I feel like it was a really heroic way to go, because he’s going after saving Alice, and I thought if you’re going to go out, better to go out heroic, rather than running the other way!”

They also asked him if he’d like to have the head prop used from the film.  He said:

“I hope they send it to me now, and I can put it on my mantle. They don’t need it anymore, right? I wonder what they do with it. I bet you they put it on eBay. I’m going to start looking for it. I’ve never had that happen on film before, so I got to say I got a little misty-eyed seeing my own head in someone else’s hands!”

A Behind The Scenes Look at the Breaking Dawn Score

Carter Burwell has posted some interesting notes on his homepage about some of his thoughts as he wrote the score for Breaking Dawn.   There is quite a bit of information on his website for people interested in all the details.  Here is a sample:

I started writing music for Breaking Dawn Part 2 more than two years before it was released. The director, Bill Condon, suggested that, just as Edward had played “Bella’s Lullaby” for Bella in the first Twilight film, he should now create a lullaby for his daughter Renesmee. This meant that I had to write it before they shot the film, which was happening at the same time as Breaking Dawn Part 1. And, as Rob Pattinson wanted to play it on screen, I had to write something that Rob could play and give him time to learn it.

Only a few weeks before Bill made this suggestion, I learned that I was about to have a baby girl myself. Inevitably I wrote the piece thinking as much about my daughter as about Edward and Bella’s. In its way this echoed the story of how “Bella’s Lullaby” had been written originally for my wife. For some reason there is a running parallel between my life and Edward’s.

“Renesmee’s Lullaby” was hinted at during Bella’s pregnancy in Breaking Dawn Part 1, but only really came into its own in Part 2. As Bill saw it, Edward would play it on the piano, as though he were making it up on the spot. Renesmee, who grows very quickly and has unknown but prodigious powers, would sit at the piano with her father, appearing to be five years old. She joins in and they develop the piece for four hands. As they do so, the scene shifts to Volterra, Italy.

NextMovie Asks 10 Lingering Questions about Twilight Saga

Now that the film franchise is over, NextMovie has posted 10 lingering questions about the films that were never answered.  As I (Lori Joffs) read through them, I realized that some of their questions were answered in the BOOK, but were not addressed in the films.  So here are some of the answers to their questions.  You can read the whole article at NextMovie.

Again… there be spoilers here!

Lots of spoilers!

1. First and foremost, when does Jacob start having sexual relations with Renesmee? When she turns 18, or just looks 18? Our heads start spinning (and our stomachs start churning) when we start to think about this one.

The fandom has tried to answer this question in the many many fan fics that have been written about Jacob and Renesmee.  Unfortunately, no one but Stephenie Meyer really knows the answer to this!  I have a feeling Jake will wait until she is truly old enough.  But when you consider the answer to the next question, your stomach might not churn so much.

2. Despite her accelerated physical maturation, nothing is said of Renesmee’s intellectual maturation. Did she really learn to walk and talk and play the piano in a matter of days? This is starting to get really far-fetched

Renesmee’s ability to learn is just as accelerated as her growth.  If you look on page 529 of the hard back version of Breaking Dawn, you’ll see Bella reading a 3 month old Renesmee Tennyson… because she didn’t like repetition in her bed time stories.  It even says she could speak with flawless grammar, but preferred to show people her thoughts rather than speak.

3. Why do all the vampires wear so many layers? We know it’s winter and all, but vampires are unaffected by the temperature. They’re all wearing coats and big, cozy sweaters – the Denalis are even in fur. Sure, we get that the vampires need to blend in with humans and it would be a giant red flag if Rosalie was walking around in a sundress in the snow, but still. It’s difficult to fight in a coat.

I think this is just a movie thing.  The actors can’t freeze.  And maybe the vampires like the feel of the layers.  But the costume department has to do what they have to do, right?  Consider that in the books the vampires wear very pale colors.  If they wear dark colors, they appear to be even more pale which draws attention to how unnatural their skin in.  Yet in the film, the vampires tend to wear darker colors so that the actors look paler.  It’s a minor detail that bugged me at the start, but I decided I had to let it go because it’s a Hollywood choice.  (I also have great resentment over the fact that Harry Potter’s eyes are blue in the films rather than green, but that’s a whole other story… and fandom…)

4. Speaking of attire, we’re assuming that Alice and Jasper ran from Brazil to Forks with the other half-breed and his aunt. Alice is the ultimate fashionista – why didn’t she make them put some clothes on?

Going even deeper into the costume dilemma’s of the film, I think they dressed the vampires to help show off their nationality as well as their life style.  The Amazon coven is barely clothed.  So if you argue – why can the actors playing the Amazons freeze to death but the Denali coven is covered in furs?  I think it can be justified that the vampires who live in the wild will dress more animalistic.  Where as vampires like the Cullens and the Denalis dress more human-like because they want a more human life.

 6. Can Mackenzie Foy fly IRL? We don’t recall Renesmee being able to fly in the books, so maybe this was something they added after they discovered her hidden talent? Either way, Jacob may have some competition from those adorable “Chronicle” boys in the future.

That moment jumped out at me, too.  No pun intended.  I really think they meant to make her jump, but it did look like she could fly!  No, Renesmee can’t fly.  But she has similar abilities to vampires that allow her to run fast and jump high.

7. How did Jasper get such a recent picture of Renesmee for her passport? When he and Alice left, Renesmee looked decidedly younger than she did when Bella met with J. Jenks, but the photo on the passport looked like present-day Renesmee.

Actually, I think the passport photo looks like Renesmee when Jasper and Alice left.  But if you read up in the Official Twilight Saga Guide, you will learn how skilled Jasper is with a computer.  Given what mere humans can do with photo shopping, I’m pretty sure Jasper could age Rensemee enough to get her an updated pass port.  In fact, in the book it’s J. Jenks that does the image altering.  Check page 668 of Breaking Dawn.

8. The shelves in Bella and Edward’s cottage are stuffed to the gills with books. More stacks of books appeared to cover every single surface. Does Edward have a secret hoarding problem?

Again, this comes from reading the book.  Edward didn’t decorate the cottage; Alice and Esme did.  And Vampires do have a lot of books.  Consider what Edward’s room looked like in Twilight.  It was covered in music and books.  When you don’t ever sleep, you have to find something to do at night.    That is… until you get a vampire spouse!

Hope this helps fill in some blanks!

Video: Bill Condon Talks About BD2 Credits with MTV – SPOILERS

Bill Condon talks to MTV about what deleted scenes we should see on the DVD as well as why they chose to do the credits the way they did.

Yes, there are spoilers in this!

Twilight Fandom Nominated for People’s Choice Award

The People’s Choice Awards were announced the day before Breaking Dawn Part 2 released in the US and Canada.  Naturally, we missed it because… well, we were watching Breaking Dawn Part 2!  But because the announcement came before the film was released, BD2 and pretty much everything pertaining to Twilight is missing form the ballot.  The only play you can show off the power of the Twi-Hard is in the Movie Fan Following category.  There is some rough competition with Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean,  but that’s never stopped us before!

Kristen Stewart is nominated in several categories for her work on Snow White and the Huntsman.  You can find her listed for Fav Face of Heroism as well as On Screen Chemistry with Chris Hemsworth.

The People’s Choice Awards will air on CBS on January 9th.

Must Read Interview with Bill Condon on What You DIDN’T See in BD2 – MASSIVE SPOILERS!

Jen Yamato at Movieline has the be all end all interview with Bill Condon.  She gets him to tell us what scenes were cut and will end up on the DVD, how they decided how the final battle would go down, and most shockingly that Bella and Edward were going to die!  They discuss the CGI of Renesmee, Kristen Stewart’s strength as Bella, and  the inspiration behind some of the new vampire’s characterizations.  The article is chalked full of spoilers.  Massive spoilers.  Detail oriented spoilers.  I can’t stress it enough, if you don’t want to be completely spoiled, do not read the story!

Here is a sample of what the article contains.

And yes, it’s spoiler heavy.

You have been warned.

We briefly see a flash forward to the grown Renesmee, living happily ever after with Jacob once she reaches her full maturity a few years down the road — when Jacob finally gets to date Renesmee.

Condon: Finally, yes! On La Push.

What was the trick to figuring out how to include that happy romantic ending for Jacob and Renesmee without it being creepy?

Condon: Well the thing is, obviously it was controversial the minute it was written. But as a filmmaker you have a great ally in Taylor Lautner, and Taylor was concerned about it. But Taylor is a pure soul. He is able to look at her with love and it doesn’t have another component to it, and I think another actor couldn’t have done that. I think there’s something so essentially sweet about him that it’s a generous love.

You filmed Parts 1 and 2 simultaneously, sometimes having Kristen Stewart play weak, dying Bella in the same afternoon as strong vampire Bella.

Condon: I really do think that Kristen Stewart is amazing, but I feel like in terms of this series she doesn’t get credit for how much she accomplishes. I think if someone were to sit and watch these two movies that we made together at the same time and realize that Kristen shot that all together, it’s just another level of her gift. She was stepping out of her comfort zone, because there was so much Kristen in teenage Bella — and now this was someone who she was just creating. I think Kristen, who’s tough on herself, was able to step out of all that stuff and just really own everything.

You’ve cited the old school Hammer horror films as a tonal reference for parts of Breaking Dawn – in what ways did you hope to capture that feeling?

Condon: When I read this, I always thought that these vampires that get collected from around the world are like the vampires I grew up with. Alistair, that whole crowd — that’s the British hammer vampire. Obviously we’ve got the Draculas. There’s The Awakening in that whole Egyptian culture. So it felt to me even though Alec isn’t part of that, you’re in London in that scene in the alley — God, just go full-out Hammer with this. Even in the costumes and the way we shot it, Michael Sheen with the other guys behind him, it really to me has the feel of a Christopher Lee movie.

I love that, and I love the fact that you’ll now get a lot of Twilight fans Googling “Hammer horror.” Now, which scenes and moments didn’t make the final cut that you wish you could have squeezed in?

Condon: I know fans of the novel are going to be disappointed in this, but Garrett has a big speech on the field, during which the mist comes at him and Bella stops it. It was great to do, and Lee Pace was amazing, but we spent almost a half hour on that field and to spend another five minutes doing something that was a kind of repeat of what she’d already done with Jane’s pain… that was a shame, that was cut. And a couple of other scenes — we did a “Bella training to fight” scene, and that was fun. It’ll be on the DVD. But it just came at the wrong time. Again, it seemed a little redundant of her learning how to use her shield.

3 Breaking Dawn Part 2 Questions Explained

I’ve seen several of the same questions pop up a few times over the weekend. I have even been asked these same questions on my facebook page and even by friends over the phone!  Heck, I was even pulled to the side at church yesterday and asked to explain one of what I am now calling the “frequently asked questions” of Breaking Dawn Part 2.  Keep in mind that these are MY – Lori’s – answers and no one else’s.  So take it for what it’s worth from someone who’s almost been around since day one of the fandom.

Also, there be spoilers here!  If you haven’t seen the film, I encourage you to look away now!

I’m not kidding.

LOTS OF SPOILERS!

Question 1 : Why do Bella’s eyes change color so quickly?

Bella’s eyes are nice and red for the beginning of the film.  But by the time Irena spots Jake and Nes playing in the snow, Bella’s eyes are golden.

There is about 3 months between Bella’s transformation and the point where Renesmee is in danger. In those three months, Bella does not feed on anything but animals, unlike most new born vampires. It’s my take on it that because she feeds only on animals right from the start, the redness of her eyes fades. However, keep in mind that we have never been told exactly how long a new born’s eyes stay truly red unless they are feeding on humans. We only know that they are very strong for the first year of their vampire life.

Also, it’s been pointed out how often Bella’s eyes are brown. I’m not sure why, but the film makers keep putting brown contacts in Bella’s eyes. This is understandable for the first time she meets Charlie, but I’m not sure why she wears the contacts to meet J. Jenks. The venom moisture in the vampire’s eyes dissolves contact lenses very quickly, so she would only get an hour or two of wear from the contacts before they would be ruined.  Just keep in mind the next time you see the film that if Bella’s eyes look really brown, she is wear contacts… even if we’re not sure why.

Question 2: Why does Marcus say “Finally” when he dies?

I LOVED this moment in the film!  LOVED!  This goes back to how Marcus feels about his life in general.  Marcus’s mate was Didyme, who was also Aro’s sister.  Didyme and Marcus were going to leave the Voltri to have a life of their own.  Aro wanted to keep Marcus for his ability to see relationships.  In order to cripple Marcus and make sure he remained with the Volturi, Aro killed Didyme.  With nothing else to live for, Marcus spends his days waiting for the end to come.  His statement of “Finally” is the perfect ending to his misery.

Read Marcus’ full bio here.

Question 3: How can Alice see the wolves and/or Renesmee in the future?

Good question!  I don’t have a perfect answer.  To be honest, I didn’t think about it myself as I was watching the film.  It was pointed out by several fans, and immediately I agreed that she shouldn’t have been able to see their fates.  She also shouldn’t have been able to see Renesmee and Jacob in the future with Edward and Bella.  I’m working on finding a good answer for you!  Right now, I’m leaning toward saying that what Alice saw was the future of the vampires.  She saw how the vampires would die or who they would kill, even if it was a werewolf.  She was seeing the future through the minds of the vampires, who happened to be dealing with werewolves or Hybrids.  But she couldn’t specifically look into a wolf’s future or a hybrids future.  So Alice could see that Edward and Bella would be happy, and part of their happiness was that Renesmee and Jacob would be happy together.  It’s a bit far fetched, but that’s what I’ve been able to come up with.  Until we hear a better explanation, that’s what I’m sticking with.

What are your other questions?  Feel free to ask away and I will do my best at answering them!  Answered by Lori Joffs.

Video: How the Cast Reacted to the Surprise Ending

The Hollywood Reporter has a few bits of interview from Michael Sheen, Taylor Lautner, and Bill Condon about their reactions to the surprise ending of the film.  They edited out the moment when Michael Sheen nearly spoils it, but just in case you haven’t seen the film yet, you might not want to watch this just yet.
