MTV Announces Twi-fight Saga

MTV has done this with other fandoms before. The one that we remember the best was their Harry Potter themed one. It kind of looks like March Madness brackets. Here are the details.

There has been so much talk of “Edward versus Jacob” over the years. Don’t you think its time that the two competitors for Bella’s love finally just duke it out to decide who’s better?

That’s exactly what MTV’s “Twi-fight Saga” is here to finally decide. Which character from the “The Twilight Saga” trumps all others? It’s up to you to choice the ultimate victor.

Starting Monday, October 22, you will be able to vote in a 64-person bracket-style tournament over at Twilight.MTV.com. With each round, the field will grow smaller and smaller until we have the final showdown to decide which character rules them all.

Stephenie Meyer Takes Part in New Book: My Ideal Bookshelf

According to USA Today

Editor Thessaly La Force asked 106 creative people — including novelists Junot Diaz, Stephenie Meyer and Jennifer Egan, chef Alice Waters and musician/memoirists Patti Smith and Rosanne Cash — to share and describe the books that matter most to them, or, as La Force put it, “the books that have made you who you are today.” The result, illustrated with Jane Mount’s color paintings of book spines, is My Ideal Bookshelf (Little, Brown, to be released Nov. 13).

Vulture: Portrait of an Influential Fan

Earlier this week New York Magazine’s culture Vulture section did a profile of the 25 fandoms with the most devoted fanbases. They ranked Twilight number three right behind Game of Thrones and Star Wars.

Today they are putting up interviews with people running websites in those fandoms, and they profiled the Lexicon and Laura. Here are two brief quotes, but the whole article is cool.

ÜBER-FAN RESPONSIBILITIES: At least twenty hours a week go into maintaining and updating the site — more when a movie is in production or about to hit theaters (as is the case right now). With the Twilight saga completed in print and soon to be finished in theaters, the site is dedicated to covering all new works in Stephenie Meyer’s oeuvre, along with any Twilight references that crop up in the news. Cristiano explains her criteria thus: “If it’s Taylor Lautner Goes for Coffee Day 552, I’m not wildly interested in that picture. If one of the actors is doing another film, that’s fantastic; but if they name-drop Twilight, then that article is newsworthy for me.” Cristiano works in marketing, and the ad revenue from Twilight Lexicon pays site-related costs. “We certainly haven’t quit our day jobs,” she notes.

HITTING THE BIG TIME: Having long been in touch with Stephenie Meyer, who participates in Q&As for the site, Cristiano was stunned to learn that she had a fan in the director of Breaking Dawn. “In the months leading up to the Breaking Dawn premiere, a bunch of the Twilight sites were invited to do a Q&A with Bill Condon in his edit bay for a half-hour. We’re going around the room introducing ourselves, and when I get to myself, Bill Condon goes, “Oh! We love the Lexicon! We used it on set!'” When the November premiere rolled around, Cristiano was camping out near the red carpet with other fans when “someone taps me on my shoulder, and I turned around, and it’s Bill Condon. And he said, ‘Hi Laura, how are you doing? This is just amazing. Is this really surreal for you?’ And I said, ‘To be honest, what’s surreal to me is that Bill Condon just tapped me on my shoulder and asked if being at a Twilight event is surreal.'”

(Personal note from Laura: Talking to a reporter is always a crapshoot. You can spend an hour and, if you’re unlucky, they’ll misquote you and take a 30 second sound bite. On a good day, they quote you correctly but make judgmental commentary on fangs, tweens and twimoms. This writer was teh exception. She did a great job and didn’t make the people she was profiling in over 25 fandoms look like morons. It’s easily my most favorite interview that I have ever participated in since starting the site in March 2006)

We also wanted to give a shout out to our friend Kimmy who runs His Golden Eyes, she was profiled for her Hungar Games website called Mockingjay

Also another shout out to Kallie from Twilight Series Theories who took the at the New Moon premiere

No IMAX in US for Twilight At Least For Now

The other day we released the information that Breaking Dawn Part 2 would be released in IMAX in the UK. It left readers wondering if a US showing would follow. When EW asked, this is what they were told, ” At this time, there are no plans for an IMAX release in the U.S., according to a Lionsgate spokesperson.”

Previously Eclipse was the only film that debuted in IMAX. Breaking Dawn Part 1 didn’t because believe it or not Happy Feet 2 had bought all the IMAX screens at its release time followed by the latest Mission Impossible movie.

A rather astute commenter on EW  named Alec has come up with what is likely the reason for it not coming to the US market which basically comes down to Blame It On Bond…James Bond.

“The reason is that the U.S. release date for the new James Bond movie, Skyfall, is later than the release date in the rest of the world, because the studio wants to make sure its fresh in theaters for the thanksgiving weekend, when ticket sales are higher than normal.
The film will be released in IMAX, which means that it reserved all (or almost all) of the U.S. IMAX theaters for at least two weeks after its Nov. 9 debut, meaning no U.S. IMAX screens will be available when the new Twilight film comes out Nov. 16. The Hobbit is the next major IMAX on Dec. 14, meaning that a 2-3 week IMAX window for Twilight after its wide release is possible if the studio and theaters expect enough demand for the big-screen experience, but it’s unlikely to happen. “

Daniel Cudmore Headed to Esme’s Heart Event

Just in from the folks at Esme’s Heart. You can check their event out online here.

Esme’s Heart is excited to announce movie actor Daniel Cudmore, who plays Felix in the popular Twilight Saga movie series, will be in Macon on Thursday, November 15, 2012 for an event at Amstar 16 sponsored by Esme’s Heart to benefit the Marine’s Toys for Tots and the Middle Georgia Food Bank. The group is celebrating the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2, the 5th and final movie in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga movie series. Esme’s Heart will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and canned goods at the event to be donated to the needy.

“We are so excited to have Mr. Cudmore attending our Screening Party”, says Cindy Adrien, President of Esme’s Heart. “Our group has been working really hard to make this last event memorable for all the fans in the Middle Georgia area.”

At the Breaking Dawn Part 1 movie premiere in November 2011 the group collected over 550 toys for the Marine’s Toys for Tots and raised $1,500 for the Wounded Warriors Project. Last year’s event had over 700 attendees.

“We have been so amazed at the number of Twilight fans, especially our age, which live in this area and thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the movie and serve two wonderful charities at the same time” says Bethany Rensberger, Vice President of Esme’s Heart. “Our group hopes to inspire people everywhere that they can make a difference. If a group of women in Macon can come together with a shared passion and find fun ways to give back, so can a local book club or bunko group. Small acts can really add up.”

Cindy Adrien and Esme’s Heart was recently spotlighted in the recent national magazine –

People’s Collector’s Special on Twilight – that is on the newsstands now in preparation for the Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere. It highlights one of the quarterly blood drives that Esme’s Heart sponsors for the Red Cross.

Bill Condon Comments on Twilight and OSCAR Season

As much as we love the Twilight movies, most fans realize that it’s not in danger of winning an OSCAR for best picture. However we do have an OSCAR winning director behind our final movie and here’s what he had to say to USA Today about Twilight and the awards season.

The early campaigning, veterans say, is inevitable, given the crush of competing awards. But even Oscar winners say the season, which seems to arrive earlier every year, can make people crazy.

“Do I miss the kind of movies you get in the Oscar season? Absolutely, and I plan to go back there,” says Bill Condon, director of the final two Twilight films and winner of the adapted-screenplay Oscar for 1998’s Gods and Monsters.

Condon, who also received another adapted-screenplay nomination for 2002’s Chicago, says the awards season is ripe “for smaller-scale, personal movies. Finding them is the trick.

“Do I miss the craziness of (the season)? Not at all,” he says. “It’s so non-stop, it’s almost debilitating.”
