Chapter 3: Big Day

Chapter Number: 3

Chapter Name: Big Day

Page Numbers: 38 – 50

Date of Chapter:  August 13, 2006.

Summary:

The chapter opens with Bella waking up from a nightmare about an immortal child.  She is annoyed with herself for having such a dream the night before her wedding.  She gets dressed and cleans the house to help shake off the nightmare.

As Charlie is eating breakfast, Alice shows up to take Bella to the Cullen house to get ready.  Alice is a little miffed that Bella didn’t get more sleep because her eyes don’t look every good.

At this point, Bella does not know where Edward is taking her on their honeymoon.  Alice lets it slip that Bella will have plenty of time to sleep on the plane tomorrow, so Bella knows they are not going to some place like “Boise, Idaho.”  Alice tries to cover up her mistake by distracting Bella and letting her know that she’s already packed for the trip.  Of course Bella is not too excited that Alice packed for her, but Alice tells her that it would have given too much away if she had packed herself.

As Alice is getting Bella ready, Bella worries that she is going to look plain next to Edward no matter what.  Alice assures her that no one will dare call her plain when she is done.  Bella’s worries are compounded when Rosalie walks into Alice’s bathroom and she sees how beautiful she is.  However, to Bella’s surprise, Rosalie offers to help Alice get Bella ready.

After Bella is ready, Renée and Charlie come to see her.  They hand her small white box with her Grandma Swan’s silver hair combs inside.  Bella is extremely grateful for the gift.  After Renée leaves, the ceremony begins.  Because Edward is waiting for Bella at the alter, Rosalie plays the music for the wedding.

Alice leads the way as the maid of honor and then Charlie walks Bella down the “aisle” towards Edward.  Bella is still very nervous, but once Charlie places her hand into Edward’s, all nervousness subsides.

Edward and Bella’s vows were the simple, traditional words spoken at most weddings.  They did have Angela’s dad change the line “till death do us part” to “as long as they both shall live.”  After they say, “I do,” and kiss as husband and wife, their family and friends proceed to give them hugs and congratulations!
