100 Monkeys Debut New Songs

MTV’s new Hollywood Crush blog talked to Jackson Rathbone about New Moon and to see if 100 Monkey might be soundtrack material.

““We’d love it,” Rathbone told MTV News. “[But] we’re not really pushing for it,” he said. “It’s one of those things where if they want to put our song on the album, I’m not going to complain.” The 24-year-old describes his band’s sound as “old school rock and roll,” that is heavily influenced by blues and funk. “It’s not whiney music,” he added.”

100 Monkeys and The National Rifle

SO in case you haven’t read the front page or seen the Twitter, Pel (Laura) and I were at the 100 Monkeys show last night.  It was AMAZING!!  And for the second time The National Rifle opened for them, and they are very fun to watch as well.  We have some video footage from the show that covers both The NationalRifle and 100 Monkeys.

TNR is a Philly based group that has received a lot of praise for their latest CD Wage Life. You can check their music out at their myspace page. I know how much Twilighters love music and this is worth the listen!!

Here is the first of several clips from 100 Monkeys.  Most of the clip is good there are a few times when others’ cameras pop into view but overall it’s pretty decent.  The video will give you guys a sense of just how cool it is to watch them live.  They bring such energy to the stage!! Enjoy the clips, and be on the look out for more including some new songs.

100 Monkeys Interview, June 14, 2009

Now with player/link that should work. See below.

Pel and Be My Escape (Laura and Jen) were able to interview 100 Monkeys after their CD signing at the Barnes and Noble located at the Promenade Shops in Center Valley, PA.

The band was great. They had signed over 300 CDs in just over an hour. If you’ve ever been to a signing you know how impressive that rate is because usually things take longer than that. So we caught up with them in the store room at B&N which had been converted into an interview space.

Throughout the interview Jackson would randomly pick up a ukulele that was Spencer Bell’s and he’d strum along a bit. Jackson and Jerad are probably the most naturally talkative, but the two Ben’s had great things to say when they did speak up. They area really relaxed bunch, that was completely gracious to everyone they encountered whether it was tongue-tied 13-year-old girls, or a B&N employee asking for a photo because her shift was ending and she was going home.

You can tell that the guys just feed off each others energy in an interview, just as they do when performing on stage. They are constantly laughing and goading each other during the interview in a good-natured way. Whether it’s miming dying of the heat at Khyber, joking about their long-distance driving skills, or  Ben G teasing Jackson that his love of banjo comes from Southern inbreeding that  in turn caused Jackson to fling a black sharpie right at Ben, you can tell how much they enjoy each others company.

Rather then type out an entire transcript, we’ve put a few key notes under the cut so you can tell who’s taking when. Other than  the first minute when the guys were all chiming in at once, it’s pretty clear who is who.

100 Monkeys at the Promenade Shops

The 100 Monkeys had a CD signing at the Barnes and Noble at the Promenade Shops in Center Valley, PA on June 14th. Jackson, Ben, Ben, Jerad, and Uncle (who came along and played percussion at their gig  later on) were all on hand for the CD signing.

Given what we are used to the crowd was really low key, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t excited. They just didn’t scream the whole time, which was a really refreshing change.  A local TV crew covered the story. Their video is below. We also had a chance to interview the band and we’ll have that audio up shortly, we’re just finishing the transcript now.

We also have some fabulous high-def video coming your way. The lighting at Croc Roc was way better than Khyber (which was like shooting footage in a cave) so we’ll have some awesome video for you once we finish editing. Cullen Boys Anonymous was also there. We’re looking forward to their pictures once they have a chance to upload.

100 Monkeys Interview and Concert Today

Follow along on Twitter with Pel and Be My Escape (Laura and Jen) as they hit the road to see 100 Monkeys. They will be tweeting their experience as things happen. If you think of a last minute question for the band, send them an @ message.

100 Monkeys Meet the Band

This weekend 100 Monkeys has added a special CD signing gig at a Barnes and Noble in Allentown PA.  According to the area paper Leighigh Valley:

“[The band]… will have a CD signing Sunday at The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, then perform 8 p.m. at Crocodile Rock Cafe in Allentown.

The CD signing is set for 2 to 4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble. The store will open at 9 a.m. and hand out a limited amount of wristbands, a news release says. Fans must purchase a 100 Monkeys CD to receive a wristband.

Tickets for the all-ages show at Crocodile Rock, 520 Hamilton St., are $10.”

Now tonight when we spoke with the representative from 100 Monkeys we learned that there are less than 100 tickets left. All of their recent shows in Philly and NYC have sold out. You don’t want to get caught short, so order ahead of time!

The Lexicon is going to be covering the show and interviewing the band.  So, if you have a 100 Monkeys question for Jared, Jackson, Ben or Ben make sure you comment below! (Please focus the questions on the band and not the upcoming movie unless it is a soundtrack related question.)

We also hear that the band is going to debut FOUR new songs at the Allentown show. AND two lucky fans are going to be selected from the audience and they’ll get to meet the band backstage.

Websites to Watch

The Darling Buds, Jamie Campbell Bower’s band, are going to be playing on June 9th in the UK. Jamie Campbell Bower just Tweeted this site so you can buy tickets early.

Also, 100 Monkeys is doing a major site launch and the contest that we wrote about during the weekend.  We just heard from their staff, and they are a little backed up on the technicals. The site should be up shortly with full content, not just the preview video that is there now. Remember that the band just added an Allentown, PA show.  Their Philly shows sold out. Don’t wait to buy tickets!

Peter Facinelli’s site is also expected to launch shortly. Same problem, technicals a little backed up.

Also while we are at it, our 100 Monkeys footage will go up tonight. Combo of new editing software and a glorious Memorial Day Weekend delayed us.

100 Monkeys Launches New Website & Contest

100 Monkeys, the band Jackson Rathbone is in, has just launched a brand new website. Currently the site has a video up that is hilarious, unique, and off-beat. Instead of the boys switching instruments they switch costumes in the video.

Additionally, the site has info on the newly added Allentown gig which is June 14 at 8:00 at the Crocodile Rock Cafe. Tickets are $10.00, and the show is open to all ages. Buy tickets here.

It gets even better.

The band is having a contest, full details will be posted tomorrow, but here’s a little preview:
It’s open to anyone who is a MySpace friend of the band on or before June 11th, or if they visit 100MonkeysMusic.com and submit their email address on or before June 11th.
Question: Now what do they win?
Answer: How’s tickets to the Allentown  show and a up close and person meet and greet with the band sound?

So, for heavens sake, stop reading our blog and go friend the 100 Monkeys on MySpace and go sign up for their mailing list!

Photogallery 100 Monkeys at Khyber

Larry at PROnetworks (the guy who recently shot that great footage of Michael Welch, Justin Chon, and Christian Serratos at the  American Dream premiere) shot some amazing footage of the 100 Monkeys concert at Khyber in Philadelphia yesterday. 87 photos in all that totally capture the energy of the band.

Khyber is a really small space. We are guessing that it held about 150 people in a room that was about 15 feet wide and 100 feet long. The drop ceiling was also pretty low. All this lead to a very sweaty environment in the audience even with the A/C on.

Now if you think we were sweaty, imagine the band, 4 guys their amps and a row of fresnels (lights), and monitors that all put out heat. Seriously the stage lighting on the keyboard was practically on top of the keyboard. It’s a wonder the band could see a thing. You pretty much could have wrung them all out after the first 10 minutes. The guys were dripping wet after the second number, and we are sure the folks up at the front were sprayed quite a bit (not that they minded) every time the guys flicked their hair out of their face. However, other than commenting occasionally as they switched off instruments on how hot they were, you never would have known it.  100 Monkeys has energy like you wouldn’t believe. They are completely committed to their music and entertaining the crowd. They clearly feed off the energy.

Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what Larry had to say:

“The band features Ben Graupner, Jackson Rathbone, Jerad Anderson, and Ben Johnson, all of whom switch up on instruments throughout the show. For example, Rathbone started on drums, moved to guitar, then on to keyboards, back to guitar, and so on. All are excellent singers as well, with Rathbone primarily providing lead vocals.

…Fans came from as far away as California

for the gig, although most had traveled from points up and down the East Coast. I met some wonderful lades from Baltimore and Allentown, and was thrilled to finally see some folks from Twilight Moms and Twilight Lexicon in person.”

Get Larry’s full report and pictures on PROnetworks

We are still editing the video footage that we saw and hope to have it up tomorrow. Good news is that there are more 100 Monkeys shows in the area and that the band will shortly be launching their website.

The latest show is in Allentown, PA on June 14 at 8:00 at the Crocodile Rock Cafe. Tickets are $10.00 (and in our opinion are easily worth double that) and even better, the show is open to all ages. So, under 21, no problem you can go! Buy the tickets before they sell out, because you know they will, and at $10.00 you can’t beat the price. Get the details here, and you can buy the tickets here.

The Lexicon is also going to have something incredible coming up in conjunction with the band, just working out the details.
