James Franco Hosting the Oscars: The Twilight, Robert Pattinson, Bill Condon Connection

James Franco explained it last night on Jimmy Kimmel. Look for it at around the 2:55 mark.

It’s not the first time James Franco has mentioned Twilight. His first nod was back in August when he mentioned it to Esquire. Then he mentioned it again to MTV’s Josh Horowitz at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Bill Condon Wishes the Fandom Happy Thanksgiving Isle Esme Style

No pictures of burly camera operators trudging across crunchy grass in booties, or  flying fish  a la the style of David Slade.  After months of photos like that, and occasional links to side projects, David delivered a photo of Riley.

Bill Condon has pretty much cut to the chase here with a sexy, tongue-in-cheek photo. Perfect considering it’s Thanksgiving and many a bird was plucked for today’s dinner. Bill Condon clearly likes to communicate specifically with the fans, has a sense of humor, and delivers what they want.

Below is the photo(taken by Andrew Cooper) posted on the official Twilight Facebook page that accompanied Bill Condon’s short but sweet Thanksgiving message.

“Happy Thanksgiving and a crazy Black Friday to all of you and yours.” – Bill Condon

EDITED: Confirmed direct from Summit entertainment that it is Kristen’s arm!

  • They didn’t want to persay used the most known locations
  • Ilse Esme will be filmed in Mamanguá in Paraty, on the southern coast of Rio, where the team moves today.

Some fans from Foforks tried to get the casts’ autographs. They missed Rob and Kristen, but they were able to get Stephenie Meyer.

Another fan on FoForks ended up having her father used as an extra in the Lapa filming while she watched because she was too young. It’s a cute story. Use Google translate to figure it out.

Middle-aged, pasty, white guys w/ glasses…that’s all I’m sayin’ …:)

Hello fans!

Has it really been five months (and a day) since my last dispatch? In my defense, they’ve been five months spent immersed in the world of TWILIGHT – something I’m sure you can all appreciate. We’re in the thick of pre-production now, juggling everything from casting to storyboarding to location scouting, getting it all ready to go, but I do want to take a moment to announce to you exclusively a few of the amazing production team members who are hard at work alongside me, bringing these movies to life.

Read the rest of the letter at the Official Twilight Saga Facebook Page.

Melissa Rosenberg Says Bill Condon “Gets It”

melissa-rosenbergheadshotMelissa Rosenberg just updated her Facebook with the following message:

“Hi Y’all! Sorry I haven’t checked in for a while. Been immersed in the world of Breaking Dawn. I’ve been working very closely with our director Bill Condon, whose input has been SO great. He understands story, structure and character as only a fellow writer can, but he also has fantastic visual ideas. And he’s not shying away from anything! Sex, birth, feathers, blood… it’s all in there. More later! xoxo Mel”

Catch Bill Condon’s Latest Work: The Big C

Bill Condon is going to be directing Breaking Dawn in a couple of months. If you want to check out his most recent work and you have Showtime, you are in luck. Bill Condon directed the Showtime series called The Big C (code letter for cancer) starring Laura Linney, Gabourey Sidibe, and Oliver Platt among others. Initially the series was getting mixed reviews from critics who saw previews, but based on ratings it’s doing well. Warning on mature subject matter and language in the video.

Bill Condon talks to the fans on Facebook!

Bill condon handA first for the Twilight fandom, Bill Condon is taking questions at the Official Twilight Saga Facebook page!  He introduces himself to the fandom and even goes so far as to reassure us that there will be no musical numbers in Breaking Dawn!  Read his message and if you have any questions for him, he says he will try to answer them!  Go show him how much a great final movie means to this fandom!  On behalf of the admins at the Lexicon, we want to say thank you to Mr. Condon for even taking this time to face the fans in this way!

LA Times: What Bill Condon Brings to Twilight

Bill condon handThe LA Times has a piece examening why Bill Condon is a good choice for Breaking Dawn.

“In making the choice, Summit, which has gone for a different type of director for each film in the franchise, clearly wanted someone with more Oscar chops (Condon’s won one and been nominated for a second). That’s both because the “Breaking Dawn” material is a little more complicated than the previous books and because with the franchise already an unstoppable juggernaut, they can afford to take a risk, at least a small one.

So what kind of teen-vampire fable will the man responsible for “Dreamgirls,” “Gods & Monsters” and “Kinsey” make? None of his previous directing credits are obvious analogues to this movie (though the initial frenzy over him as a candidate was a little baffling; good filmmakers reinvent themselves all the time. And it’s nothing compared to Rob Marshall, another man known for musicals, taking on “Pirates of the Caribbean 4″).”

Bill Condon: Highlights From A Diverse Career

Bill-CondonsoloSo now that Bill Condon has been announced as the director of Breaking Dawn, everyone wants to know just who is he? Given the previous three directors here’s where he stacks up just on statistics:

He’s the same age as Catherine Hardwicke, but has directed the same number of  films as Catherine, Chris Weitz, and David Slade combined.

Like Chris Weitz, he is both a writer and a director. Also like Chris, he was nominated for an Oscar based on his writing.  Bill was nominated an Academy Award for Adapted Screenplay for CHICAGO and he won the Academy Award for Adapted Screenplay for GODS AND MONSTERS.

– Hollywood’s best and brightest (and also most difficult) have worked with Bill Condon such as Oscar nominees and winners: Ian McKellen, Liam Neeson, Brendon Fraser, Laura Linney, Tim Hutton, John Lithgow, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson.

– Like David Slade he’s done the horror thing by directing one of the Clive Barker Candyman series.

-Like Chris Weitz and Catherine Hardwicke, he respects adaptation from the originating source material, and doesn’t want to lose site of the popular work that everyone fell in love with. (See the interview with Charlie Rose below.)

-Like Catherine he thrives on character driven/relationships like Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters, and Kinsey (Check out Bill talking about Dreamgirls in the video below.)

Now here’s the next item which people should be asking: who do you think he’ll want to be in the Breaking Dawn Cast who he’s worked with before? Hollywood, aside from talent, is all about connections, reputation, and previous experience. There are a lot of new vampires in Breaking Dawn, and we fully expect a lot of them to be cut or combined like the way Anna Kendrick’s Jessica is a combination of the book’s Jessica and Lauren. On the other hand, some are uncuttable due to basic plot. What leaps to mind right away is the Denali Coven in particular Irina, because without Irina going to the Volturi there’s no back end of the story.

So…who appears to be  twenty-thirty something, is an UBER Twilight fan, fits the age range, and has worked with Bill Condon before. There’s one name that instantly jumps up. The first person to come up with the answer that we are thinking of in our comments gets the autographed photo of their choice from our collection.
