Breaking Dawn Filming to Start Today in Paraty

As we reported yesterday, the production company has moved from Rio to an area called Paratay where the Isle Esme scenes are to be shot. The cast arrived at that location via helicopter.

Specifically the scenes are shot on the island resort we featured yesterday, but the cast and crew are not staying on the resort because it is not able to handle overnight accommodations for such a large team of people. The cast and crew are at a site off-island and brought there each day. Yesterday was a travel and rest day due to the overnight  shooting in the Lapa District the night before.

I can’t find the source at the moment, but one reason given for the back and forth to the island is that the resort is fairly open to the elements and if it rains (part of current forecast) it isn’t very protected and they’ll have to go for different shots.

The navy is providing security for both the inn where the cast is currently staying and the filming site. Apparently people have tried to access both sites and have been turned away. It seems that no one is able to be closer than 200 yards in either case. There is at least one major Brazilian entertainment outlet that has rented a boat and is at anchor at the established 200 yard perimeter.  Whether or not they will be able to capture any footage besides arrivals on the island is unknown.

We will post arrival footage in plain site when it is available, other footage will be below spoiler cuts. If you are visiting our page directly, the spoiler cut is obvious like the one at the bottom of this entry marker “spoiler click to read more”. Realize that if you are coming to our site via Twitter, Facebook or a direct link the spoiler cut is not there(just the way the software works), but you will see the term “spoilers below the cut” so if you don’t want to be spoiled, STOP when you see the word “spoiler”

The consensus seems to be a filming starting this afternoon, but that info has changed several times.

TwiBlogBrasil has a good rundown with great translation.

Isle Esme Resort Profiled

FoForks profiled what the Isle Esme resort looked like last week. Here are the details:

“We have dozens of excellent pictures from all angles, places and flavors of the wonderful house that would be used as set on Esme Island, during the shooting of ‘Breaking Dawn’ in Rio, in addition to some other information about the possible location:

Located at a paradisiacal region, the house designed by Thiago Bernardes has a complete infrastructure, with confort and privacy, in 220 meters of private beach. Besides, it has exclusive access by boat or helicopter. The accommodation has 2 suites with King Size beds, 2 suites with twin beds and independent rooms. There are 720 meters of decks and balcony with panoramic view and a complete kitchen. The house can be rented for holydays, with it’s daily rate ranging from 8 to 15 thousand reais ( 5.000 to 9.000 us dollars) , depending of the period of the year. You can check the house’s website at www.casaemparaty.com.br”

As has been previously reported, the location is reachable only by boat. The cast is taking a helicopter from Rio to a location nearby the island and then a boat from there. The location is completely secure. The public will not be allowed on site to observe from a distance. All crew members have signed strict confidentiality agreements with serious monetary and possible criminal penalties if footage is released.

Bill Condon Gives Press Conference in Rio

Bill Condon held a press conference along with producer Wyck Godfrey and Rio Filme director Sérgio Sá Leitão. Here are highlight from R7:

  • According to Bill Condon, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are enjoying the outpouring of fan love. He added that he was enjoying it too.
  • Due to the efforts of Rio Filme they realized that Rio is a very vibrant place, and they decided that the city would be used. They wanted to include the real authentic culture and flavor of Brazil that’s why they filmed in the Lapa section
  • They didn’t want to persay used the most known locations
  • Ilse Esme will be filmed in Mamanguá in Paraty, on the southern coast of Rio, where the team moves today.
  • Wyck Godfrey stated that they were done filming in Rio proper
  • Sergio Sa Leitao, president of Rio Filme, added that the crew would be back to Rio just to make aerial images of the city.
  • They expect to be in Brazil for 10 days and shoot on 5 of them. Other days are for arrivals, departures, set ups, travel, etc.
  • The Isle Esme location is remote and under tight security all personnel working there have been instructed to leave all recording devices, cameras, smart photos, etc. at home or they will be confiscated. Anyone found taping illegally faces serious fines and/or prosecution

Following the press conference the entire crew packed up from the Copacabana Hotel and proceeded to a helicopter ride to get to their next location.

Some fans from Foforks tried to get the casts’ autographs. They missed Rob and Kristen, but they were able to get Stephenie Meyer.

Another fan on FoForks ended up having her father used as an extra in the Lapa filming while she watched because she was too young. It’s a cute story. Use Google translate to figure it out.

Videos from Filming in the Lapa District Featuring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

The videos give you the overall of a the crowd scene which is probably an arrival scene in Brazil since you’d hardly expect Bella and Edward to be partying on their way out of Brazil! This is likely some of the only footage that will be seen in Brazil as other areas by all accounts will not be accessible to the public.

According to BlogTwiBrasil and FoForks on Twitter,  filming went through the night, approximately 7 hours. Lots of backing up and resetting to get crowd angles just right which is very typical of large crowd scenes. That many people are difficult to coordinate and timing is everything. Mostly the crowd of extras was cooperative. There were a couple of incidents of fan extras trying to hug Rob and/or Kristen in between takes. (photos here) There was also at least one extra who was removed from set for apparently being drunk and uncooperative.

Fans Not the Only Ones Renting Windows

Apparently Summit bought out the windows of residents who lived on the street in the Lapa district where overnight filming is taking place, and paid the bars to stay closed!    Here are the highlights:

  • Overnight filming scheduled from circa 11:00pm-7:00am (this after a circa 8:00pm filming at a local marina)
  • A long city block was rented
  • Residents on the block needed ID to access their homes all day long
  • Residents paid $ 50 and $ 500 reais ($30 to $300 American Dollars) to not have people hanging out their windows depending how close to the action they were.
  • Bars and Restaurants paid $ 10,000 and $ 20,000 reais ($6,000 to $12,000 American Dollars) to stay closed for the evening to eliminate noise and provide a clear street.

A debate arose on Twitter last night as to rings and cuffs. Edward is clearly not wearing the wrist cuff, though as Alison from Twifans pointed out “it’s not exactly wedding attire” other have suggested he may have removed it now that he is with Bella, or maybe it just isn’t in the shot.

Then the discussion moved on to wedding rings. Bella clearly has one one. Edward we think so, but it’s hard to tell.

So, do you care if he wears the wrist cuff or not?

Want a Window Seat to Watch Filming? Going Rate is $30 a Person

According to FoForks people with apartments in the downtown area are selling their window views to fans who want to watch filming at roughly 30 American dollars a person(50 Brazil Reais).

Hopefully they actually see Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for that price and not just background action. They also had to get there very early, because police blocked off access to non-residents and residents without address identification.

Full story on R7

Earlier today there was unrest in the area resulting in police being called in.

There were incidents of arson when residents without identification were being denied access to their homes. Current reports from TwiBlogBrasil Twitter indicate that the security is keeping crowds back to allow for movement of vehicles, arrival of actors, etc. They crowd is excited but not unruly.

The  above photo is a portable dressing room arriving. See coverage with plenty of pictures on Globo

Lots more photos of Rob and Kristen here.

Assumptions are that it’s an early arrival scene in Brazil in transit to Isle Esme.
