FearNet Profiles Charlie Bewley

Jen Yamato has another great interview. This time it’s with Charlie Bewley:

“Bewley, who maintains an air of mystery about his personal life (is he single or not?!), regaled us with the tale of his pre-Twilight life, how he came to nab a role in New Moon, and how he plans on parlaying his Twi-hard fan base – or, as they call themselves, Charlie’s Angels – into a long-term career in front of and behind the camera. And in case you’ve been curious, he answers an age-old question about his character: Is Demetri gay or European?

You announced on Twitter that you had injured yourself on the famous Rocky steps. Did Demetri’s special talent for running not save you from the stairs?

Charlie Bewley: I like to run every morning, and I had to do the Rocky stairs, being in Philly. I’m the only guy there, it’s a bit rainy, and I get to the top – I’m wearing my black Spider-Man outfit – and I jump up and down. A little voice in the back of my head is like, “You’ve got to do the whole thing. You’ve got to do it.” So I was jumping around like Rocky on the top of the stairs, took one step down and twisted right over my ankle. I’m such a bad vampire.”

Charlie Bewley: Glamour Magazine Interview

Charlie Bewley did an interview with Glamour Magazine. He gives great insight into what the filming was like for the new kid on the block. Although Demetri is a minor role, it’s our prediction that the role and Charlie are going to be huge fan favorites based on the trailer clips and our meeting him at the Creation Twilight Tour. One thing Charlie has tons of is charisma, that and the fact that he has biceps that are out of this world is going to capture notice.

Were you a Twilight fan before you were cast in New Moon?
I wasn’t a Twilight fan. I just couldn’t get over that whole alpha male-ism that there might be a better-looking person out there in the world but me. (LAUGHS)

What was it about the part of Demetri that part that attracted you?
With Demetri, I knew that I could bring something to this character that no one else could; a certain energy and flare and charisma that I could really bring to him and make my own.

How was it coming into the cast for the second movie as an outsider?
A lot of people misquoted me when I said that it was difficult to come into a group of actors like that and they thought that the whole Hollywood cliché was the problem, but what it is is that with Twilight you have a phenomenon that’s only a year old and everyone has gone through it together; the staple six or eight characters in this film have gone through this massive amount of attention from the world and they have had to bond; they’ve had no choice, whether they liked each other from the start or not. And for people to come onto the set on such a high profile film and expect to just walk in and start high-fiving, that’s just not logical and human nature, and it does take two or three days for people to adjust to someone’s personality and sense of humour, etc. ”

New Moon Cast at Rome Film Festival

Cameron Bright, Melissa Rosenberg, Charlie Bewley, and Jamie Campbell-Bower were all at the Rome Film Festival to debut New Moon clips for the Italian fans.

“Breaking Dawn: will it be filmed? When?”
Rosenberg and the actors declined to answer, and only said they are perfectly happy with the first three films. (They didn’t say “We don’t know yet”, they actually skirted the question…) Rosenberg said she has chosen to focus on the emotional journey of the book, and tried to replicate it in her script. This meant condensing some scenes, expanding other scenes with more action sequences. In the first movie she was very protective of her script, and felt Meyer was a strong external influence; but this time she realized Meyer was very cooperative, and a pleasure to work with.”

The Twilight Cast Has a Blast in Australia

HUB Productions, the company behind the majority of  Twilight related fan conventions in Australia, has a bunch of TwitPics of the cast enjoying themselves in between official meet and greet opportunities. Tinsel Korey, Charlie Bewley, Chaske Spencer, Cameron Bright, and Chris Heyerdahl clearly had a fabulous time whether it was throwing on jumpsuits to do a bridge climb or to interact with the wildlife.

Bridge climbing with costume collector John Henson.

Charlie hitting an all time new level of too cute for words. See more on the HUB Twitter account.

Meet the Volturi Down Under

Cameron Bright, Charlie Bewley, and Christopher Heyerdahl (who play Alec, Demitri, and Marcus) were at a convention in Australia this weekend and had time for an interview with Movie Mazzupial.

“Christopher: It was great fun, that’s the wonderful thing about being inside a studio. Certainly the majority of the Volturi scenes for New Moon were done inside a studio and in there you enter a cloistered, inner-sanctum where we’re protected on all sides. So all the pandemonium that happens outside bounces off this protective wall of the studio, so it was really easy to just do the work. But as soon as we left the studio and went outside to restaurants or hotels, what have you, the pandemonium was definitely there.

MM: What were some of the difficulties playing the role? I mean, all of your characters are essentially pretty evil, was that too hard to get into?

Charlie: I don’t know, it was fairly hard. The biggest trouble I found with my character was just his complete desire to want to let it rip, you know? You are bestowed with these powers of speed and strength and, you know, Demetri has a talent for tracking as well. I found I had to contain myself during the scenes and not just completely defy the script, whip around and go round ripping people’s heads off.

Christopher: (Laughs) I had no idea that was going on in your head, that’s amazing. You scare me now (laughs).”

The Lexicon staff meets Charlie Bewley

While at Creation Entertainment’s Official Twilight Convention in Chicago this weekend we had the chance to meet our first member of the Volturi guard, Charlie Bewley who plays Demitri.  Charlie was on stage for Q&As on Friday and really gave the fans a treat with his British humor and a new way to think of the Volturi.  He said that they aren’t really “evil” but that they are just making sure someone upholds the law.  We found this comment particularly interesting considering that we had printed off tote bags which basically said the exact same thing!  We had Charlie sign the bags and will be giving it away on the website at a future time.  He also spoke about his audition process and that he was initially called in to audition for Marcus, which he didn’t want.  He did this hilarious Marcus impersonation several times where he kind of fell over the side of his chair and mumbled dialogue in an exaggerated form of boredom.  He told us that Chris Heyerdahl does this very creepy voice for Marcus and that his performance was spot on.

Charlie also spoke about the costuming for the Volturi saying that when he first saw everyone in costume he felt that “we all looked like a bunch of choir boys!”  He said that it took the addition of the hand painted contact lenses to really feel the vibe of the characters and that once he saw himself in full make up he stood back and praised the mind of Stephenie Meyer.  But probably the funniest moment of the Q&A was when he compared the Cullens to the Volturi.  Of course the crowd booed a bit when he said the Volturi were better and cooler, but he made his point to a degree when he suggested showing the two covens gear up for battle.  He said the Cullens would be there pumping up their Reeboks while the Volturi would be putting on Armani capes and making sure their medallions were straight.  Much laughter followed especially when he started acting it out!

Many thanks to Charlie Bewley and the staff at Creation Entertainment for the photo!

Charlie Bewley: Man of Mystery

Holloywood.com was able to go in depth with Charlie Bewley about his past and his future hopes:

“Charlie Bewley won’t say how old he is.

He also won’t elaborate on the details of his seemingly scandal-heavy past, which he alludes to frequently, nebulously describing it as “erratic, risky, bread-line. High highs, low lows.” In passing, he mentions turbulent romances and family dramas, and says he doesn’t really drink anymore, but keeps mum on the reasons why. He is decidedly mysterious.

“I have to be,” Bewley says.

What’s known is that Bewley is a British expat who worked several snow seasons in ski mecca Whistler after immigrating to Canada several years ago. For a time, he supported himself by driving a cab (“I had the most money out of all my friends”) and later moved to Vancouver, a two-ish-hour drive from Whistler, to pursue his acting career. The choice necessitated another move to Los Angeles in September of this year.

This is, of course, because Bewley plays the Volturi vampire Demetri in the upcoming New Moon, the second installment of the culturally permeating Twilight Saga series.”
