Catching Up With the Cast: Pre-Emmy Awards

Various cast members swung by the pre-Emmy Awards parties and swag rooms this weekend.

Melissa Rosenberg had this to say about Breaking Dawn when asked by Marc Malkin over at E!

“First up, Breaking Dawn. Rosenberg is not allowed to could not confirm she’s going to be tackling the script. “That’s still up in the air,” she said. “We’re still talking and nothing’s been decided.”

Rachelle Lefevre told E!

“To be honest, I sort of feel like I have everything. I have an amazing boyfriend, I love my house, I’m wearing a great Jay Godfrey dress and I’m at an Emmy party.”

Justin Chon Spoke about David Slade

“He’s done pretty dark films so that’s where I see [Eclipse] really gravitating towards—more of a dark kind of moody film. Just shooting the scenes that I’m in, the mood is definitely different. David is very set on how he wants this movie to be portrayed. It’s a lot more refined and maybe not as loose as the last two—at least for us humans. I can only imagine what he’s doing with everyone else.”

Ebay Charity Store

Do you want autographed Twilight merchandise that’s guaranteed to be authentic?  Even better, if you buy it the proceeds go to charity.

Rachelle Lefevre just opened her EBay Charity store. According to InStyle “Proceeds go to to raise funds for School On Wheels, a charity that provides educational opportunities to homeless kids in Southern California.”

Check out InStyle’s write up and the store itself.

Awkward Moment

Call this innocent bystander fallout. The unfortunate result of the Rachelle and Summit situation is that castmates are now stuck in the middle being asked questions that puts them in a tough spot. No matter what their feelings are, it’s a no win situation, if they take a side it’s Catch 22.

Rachelle LeFevere Update 7/31

Just keeping everyone updated here, and that’s to say in the last 24 hours there has been no further comment from either Rachelle or Summit. Conspiracy theories abound on all angles.  Hard to know which have merit and which don’t.

As far as we can tell, Marc Malken on E! has a pretty good statement here as to where this is in all probability going:

“Rachelle Lefevre and Summit Entertainment’s fangs are retracting a little bit today—at least in public, that is.

I’m told the actress formerly known as Twilight’s Victoria isn’t planning on releasing any more statements like the one she sent me yesterday. Same for Summit—the corporate lips are sealed.

Why? Because now the bloody mess is apparently being hashed out by lawyers.”

In as much as neither side has issued anything in the last 24 hours, this thing, as we said in our position statement, is all going to boil down to what was in a contract and subsequent verbal/written agreements. In other words, bring in the lawyers. Now that doesn’t mean a court date, we are surmising phone calls, meetings, etc. which will probably result in some settlement with a nondisclosure clause. That tends to be how disputes like this go down.

Could it go to some sort of public trial if they don’t reach an agreement? Technically yes, but we would doubt it would come to that. In our opinion, it just wouldn’t make sense on at least two levels: 1) time 2) money. So, we would anticipate that the two parties will hash it out behind closed doors.

So what do we think will happen short term? Probably not a lot of communication on this specifically from either end. Again we are making an assumption here based on the facts as presented by each side in their respective public statements, but it would seem logical to us that if  there are legal teams involved, the first piece of advice any lawyer gives their client is “keep your mouth shut”.  The only thing that we feel safe in saying for sure here, is that the respective legal teams will be earning their keep.

Prior to the current controversy, Melissa Rosenberg discussed the role of Victoria in New Moon with MTV.

Around the Net: The Rachelle Story

A variety of media have picked up the story.  Here are links to those doing an analysis rather than just repeating press releases from either camp. We will edit this entry anticipating that there will be more during the day.

RadarOnline: Fan reaction and fansite reaction. You can see our previously released quote appearing here. You can also see quotes from TwiCrack, Cullen Boys Anonymous, Bella and Edward, and A Twilight Kiss.

HitFix:  calling it She Said/Studio Said “Sadly, the biggest losers here are the fans who are getting caught in a tug of war between a rising star whose was extremely fan-friendly and a studio who has done everything possible to satisfy their constant hunger for new material.  Is it going to take franchise author Stephenie Meyer to broker peace between everyone involved?  One thing is clear, if you end up seeing Lefevre on Larry King Live or hearing her on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show over the next few days?  Then it’s really gotten ugly.”

ReelzChannel: A brief  look a fan reaction that runs run the serious to the sublime.  It  ends on some ironic quotes given that these quotes were from fans.

The Movie Fanatic: As usual providing analysis from all angles in more than a soundbite.  After hitting all points TMF asks its readers, “Finally, the main issue for a moviegoer like you and me is that all film outfits make decisions, whether popular or otherwise, for the sake of coming up with a great movie. For all we know, there maybe other casting changes in the Twilight horizon soon enough! What’s on your mind? What was your first reaction when you learned that Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by another actress to play Victoria? Are you a Bryce Dallas-Howard fan? Have you seen her previous movies? What is your reaction regarding Ms. Lefevre issuing a press release regarding her reaction to the casting change? Let us know what you think!”

Statement From Summit 7/29/09:regarding Rachelle

We just received the following statement from Summit Entertainment:

We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio.  Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.

Ms. Lefevre’s representatives were advised as early as April that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was expected to start shooting in early August.

If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes “passionate,” about being part of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to BARNEY’S VERSION, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June.  Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.

Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE’s principal photography.  This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.

Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap.  It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.

The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to the other project – which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment – makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

Rachelle Lefevre in Barney’s Vision

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rachelle is slated to join a powerhouse cast in Barney’s Vision,

“Rosamund Pike, Minnie Driver and Rachelle Lefevre are playing Paul Giamatti’s many wives in “Barney’s Version,” the adaptation of the Mordecai Richler novel being directed by Richard Lewis. Robert Lantos is producing via his Serendipity Point Films.”Barney’s” tells the story of the politically incorrect, fully lived life of the impulsive, irascible and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky (Giamatti).”
