Bree Tanner Movie?

Rumor broke yesterday of a possible Bree Tanner movie. Nothing like trying to verify a rumor on a major holiday weekend! We are trying to see if the story has any validity; however, if the property is in hot negotiation, Summit may not want to talk about it, so stand by, we’ll do the best we can on this one. Casting talk would be way premature on a project that doesn’t have a script, screen writer, or director; however, the other material may have some credibility.

The Australian site What’s Playing broke the news. They generally have a reliable track record and aren’t prone to gossip and unfounded rumor. So take that info for what it’s worth. Here’s part of what they had to say:

“Consider this nothing more than a rumour – if only because our source, though seemingly on the level and able to provide sufficient information to pass the BS detector, is a first-time scooper – but alas, it’s too good not to print, so we are, but with that disclaimer. And, quite frankly, there’s no real reason why this wouldn’t be true.

According to the tipster, who works in licensing, Stephenie Meyer’s book The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner – released in March – is headed to the big screen. Tanner, of course, is a character that popped up ever-so-briefly in this year’s The Twilight Saga : Eclipse.”

See more on What’s Playing.

Oddly enough, we asked Stephenie Meyer about the possibility of a Bree Tanner movie on the Eclipse Black Carpet. (No we had no inside info or agenda, it was just a curiosity question.) Stephenie, as you can see in the video, didn’t discount the idea or state that she was adverse to it. Producer Wyck Godfrey also stated at that time, that he and Stephenie had several irons in the fire. Maybe this was one of them? Check out the video and give us your opinion. What do you think about a Bree Movie?

UPDATE: We checked with Summit regarding the accuracy of the story. An official representative stated, “Everything found online about this topic is at this point pure speculation.

Forbes Magazine: Successful Author List 2010

Stephenie Meyer ranks second on Forbes Magazine’s successful author list. She’s number two, and right behind fellow megaseller James Patterson.

“Vampire romance author Stephenie Meyer ranks second this year. Her Twilight series has become such a juggernaut that despite not releasing a new title in 2009, she earned $40 million over the year. About $7 million of that came from the movies adapted from the Twilight series. In June the third Twilight installment pulled in $175 million in its first six days, the most successful first week of any movie of 2010.”

Other women authors on the list include JK Rowling, Danielle Steele, Janet Evanovich

Fanjunket Friday: What Kind of Twilight Merchandise Does Stephenie Have

Twifans.com: (LTT & Twifans) ask Stephenie Meyer TwiMerch & TwiRoom by twifans

LTT: So what have you been given where you’re, like, “Oh! Okay…that’s interesting…”

SM: What’s the weirdest thing I’ve been given? I been given some really amazing stuff, because someone gave me a quilt that…….I mean, I don’t have words. It’s amazing. Each square was made by someone different. And they depict scenes from different scenes from the book. And it’s lovely.
Someone knitted a giant Twilight book cover with the hand and the apple. It’s a bed-size blanket. And it’s amazing. That took a lot of effort!

(chatter)

Meghan: The drum?

SM: Oh, the drum….that was amazing. That’s one of my
favorite things. From the Quileute Nation, they sent me a drum, and I guess part of the package was “you have to make your first drum,” and it was somebody’s first drum that they had made, and it’s really beautiful. There’s one very similar to it hanging in Emily’s house. That was really cool. But they want things that are funny that I’ve gotten.

Twifans.com: Stephenie Meyer discusses why Edward Cullen wants to make Bella wait until marriage by twifans
“Q: I’m curious about Eclipse because at the point where…I love Eclipse because Edward becomes a lot more flirtatious, and you get to kinda see that.

SM: They have some moments, which are hard to do with fiction because everybody wants constant pacing. I tend to slow down. A lot of what my editors did was cut. Because I just wanna sit and “Let’s have a nice moment. Let’s have a happy time.”

Q: One of the most “nice moments” is when they’re in Edward’s room in bed, and he proposes, okay? There are lots of people that have asked questions, I’ve probably had 10 or 20 just within that one scene. But the one I want the answer to the most is: Edward at one point, he kind-of caves. Just a smidge. When he says “no, no, stop, we’re not doing this until we are married” — is it more out of a moral issue, or is it more out of “I want to make sure you keep up your end of the deal”?

SM: They’re equal parts. There are a couple of things. One is, Edward was born in 1901. And in his mind — he understands the world more clearly than we do. He hears everybody’s thoughts. But to him, this is kind of a…for him it’s a very disrespectful… And he can’t get away from the taboos of his youth. It would be wrong to take advantage of her, in his mind. And obviously, she has a completely different viewpoint. Her viewpoint of it is very modern. She knows that she is with him forever, and she doesn’t see his point. But he just comes from a different place. And I really like, every place I could put in, that would really date him. Because I like when he is…..109.

Stephenie Fansite Junket:Part 2 Volvos, Angryedward, Reshoots, and more

In another release of the fansite press junket with Stephenie Meyer today, Twifans has up some additional information about the picking your battles on a movie set and how thing get in, get cut, and get reshot.

“Kim: Okay, we have a question about the Angry Edward, and how hot he is. When he gets angry, he pulls up, and he’s like…ya know……if you ever touch her against her will again. All the fans just love it. We all love it and everybody went crazy. The members, our members, we all wanna know about angry Edward.

Alison: Why do you think the fandom thinks Angry Edward is SO hot?

SM: Ya know it’s funny about this scene, and Meghan’s giving me the eye. That’s the one I walked out on, on the dailies because in my head that scene was so much different. In the movie Edward is quite separate motivation-ally from the book Edward. At this point in the film in the story for me he’s gotten past this. Like he’s realized “I can’t act like a teenage boy anymore. I have to give her space. I have to be the mature one here.” And in that scene in the book, he has, icy calm control. He is very gentle. He is very soft spoken. He is very mature. So when I see him….and plus ya know, the movies are unable to bring to life some of the elements in the mythology. If Edward had, in anger, grabbed Jacob by the shoulder, his arm would have come off. And the fact that Taylor is uninjured, and that he just kind of sits there…..bothered me. So I’m like…wait! If we are gonna go for it, tear his arm off. Ya know. And it’s hard for them, because blood puts you over the limit and stuff, and they would not tear off Jacob’s arm. I’m like….if we want angry Edward, I wanna see some blood. They had already filmed that day, so we couldn’t redo it but, people have responded really well to it.”
