Taylor Lautner’s RV Lawsuit Settled

US Magazine got the the scoop on this one. According to US:

“McMahon’s RV has agreed to settle its dispute with Taylor Lautner. McMahon’s RV will pay $40,000 to Lautner, which Lautner will donate to The Lollipop Theater Network, a children’s charity with which he has a long-standing relationship,” Lautner’s attorney Robert Barta tells UsMagazine.com exclusively.

Adds Barta: “The Lollipop Theater Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing movies currently in theaters to children confined to hospitals due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The Lollipop Theater Network works with hospitals nationwide, including the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas.”

There are more details on US including a statement about an emotional distress clause being a standard legal clause(which we said in our previous coverage). Taylor was not a diva with an emotional breakdown. It’s amazing how some sites, particularly gossip sites run by ex-attorneys overlooked that fact.

Legit Lawsuit, PR Stunt, or Something Else?

Taylor_Lautner_leanLast week we saw several references to Taylor Lautner and his management team suing a California RV company because they failed to deliver a decked out RV on time to the Pennsylvania location where Taylor would be filming Abduction. The info came out across the AP wire service and other places.

We didn’t bother covering it because it didn’t seem that newsworthy, it wasn’t like it was a contract dispute over a Twilight salary or anything. It seemed like a pretty cut and dry “failure to provide services” contract dispute filled with lots of legalese and of course the inevitable “emotional distress” clause that generally accompanies any suit of this nature. Now because it was a slow news week, lots of outlets made a big deal out of the “emotional distress” clause and what was Taylor mental state, was he a diva, etc.

What started to bother us was how did this get on the AP wire to begin with? Actors get into lawsuits like this all the time, and they never make the news or it’s a footnote at best. It’s not like Taylor walked off with expensive clothes or jewelry. It was about an RV that was ordered and didn’t show up. The only time a dispute like this really hits is if someone tips off the media. It didn’t seem like Taylor’s camp would do that because it’s not really their style. It was an RV not the non delivery of a promised role or major endorsement. No one was physically hurt. What would they have to gain by bringing attention to a dispute over the non-delivery of an RV?

Cue round two, the owner of the RV company decides that he and Taylor should have a push up contest to settle the dispute and puts out press to that effect. This just didn’t sit right with us. I mean if I were the owner of the RV company and I thought I actually delivered to specs the item (possibly late), I might have in good faith knocked some money off and tried to settle this whole thing out of the limelight, but a push-up contest? It just wasn’t adding up. If I felt Taylor Lautner had wronged me and my reputation, I’d be singing the “diva, spoiled actor” routine until the cows came home. I’d be touring film crews through the decked out RV saying “this is what the diva turned down.” But a push up contest?

Well it looks like the team at The Hollywood Reporter legal division was thinking that this whole thing was pretty fishy too, and they did some digging. Here’s what they discovered when they went to Taylor Lautner’s legal team

“We have tried to take the high road by not commenting on this matter but we want to set the record straight.  McMahon’s RV’s response to our client’s legitimate claim further demonstrates the lack of professionalism that Mr. McMahon, his company and his employees have exhibited from the outset, and that compelled the filing of this lawsuit in the first place.  This suit is not about a “customized” RV, it is about McMahon’s RV’s refusal to deliver the vehicle in the safe, drivable condition that was promised, as every purchaser has the right to expect.  A cursory review of McMahon’s RV’s record with the Better Business Bureau shows that this is a repeated pattern of conduct; Mr. Lautner just happens to be a high profile customer that is holding them accountable.  Indeed, Mr. McMahon, through his attorney, has already apologized to the Lautners for his and his company’s conduct.  While we will not dignify Mr. McMahon’s facetious suggestion of a contest to settle a legal claim with a response, we do welcome the opportunity for him to resolve this matter by making a $40,000 donation to the charity of Mr. Lautner’s choice, and we will be in touch with his counsel to see if he will make good on this offer.”

The Hollywood Reporter also has an excellent blow-by-blow description of this whole thing from the get-go, if you want the nitty gritty details.

So, what do you think about this whole mess?

Twilight Dominates Glamour Magazine’s Sexy Men List

According to the press release via AHN:

“Robert Pattinson is sexier than Taylor Lautner, but only by a notch, according to 50,000 women who participated in U.K.’s Glamour magazine poll. The vampire and the werewolf of “Twilight” beat out 48 other heartthrobs in the Sexiest Men of 2010 survey.

While Pattinson, 24, isn’t new to the list, in fact he was at the same top spot last year, Lautner, 18, is, and so is the rest of the top five – “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder and “Twilight” stars Xavier Samuel and Kellan Lutz.

With the exception of Lautner, who plays werewolf Jacob in the film series, the sexiest men alive in the top 5 all play vampires.”

The trend is illustrated even further right now with Robert Pattinson battling Ian Somerhalder on the EW Sexy Beast 2010 poll.

Looking forward to next year, there are a whole lot of new vampires about to make an appearance. Whoever, in our opinion, plays Garrett is going to make an HUGE splash in much the way relative unknown, Xavier Samuel, did in Eclipse.

So which of those guys tops your personal list? Pel is wondering how it is that Jackson Rathbone and Peter Facinelli got missed!

Taylor Lautner At Steelers Game

Taylor Lautner is still filming Abduction in the Pittsburgh area. He has some downtime on Sunday where he took in a Pittsburgh Steelers game.  According to Just Jared:

“Taylor Lautner snaps a pic with Pittsburgh Steeler Dan Sepulveda just before their game against the Detroit Lions held at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on Saturday (August 14).

Posted on the Steelers blog: “Taylor Lautner, who starred in the Twilight series and is in Pittsburgh filming Abduction, enjoyed his time on the field, talking with Steelers players, coaches and even saying hi to some excited young fans.”

See the rest on Just Jared.

Taylor is a long time football fan. In between takes he and the other guys in the wolfpack often pass time throwing the ball around. Taylor also demonstrated his football skills by playing in last year’s Celebrity Beach Bowl and by throwing passes on the Jay Leno show to one of his personal football heroes, Jerry Rice.

Most of the reports on Taylor’s film shoot have been pleasant. The only one we’ve stumbled upon that indicates any strife is this one, and from the sound of it, it looks like the film shoot brought already brewing problems to a head.

EW Sexy Beast: Team Edward vs. Team Jacob Showdown

We all knew it was coming folks given the way the brackets were divided. EW’s quarter final round now has Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black squaring off. Go vote, and please do no bodily harm to those voting on the opposite side 🙂

AP: What Happens When Taylor Lautner Comes to Your Town

The AP has a three-day cataloging of exactly what happened in a small Pennsylvania town where Taylor Lautner was filming Abduction.

“As Day Two dawned, a handful of girls were camped out by 7 a.m. More arrived, perhaps twice as many as the day before. Some were younger: Maryah Rosenwald, 13, wrote “I heart Taylor” on her arms and legs with a Sharpie and carried a hand-lettered “Marry Me” sign and a Ring Pop for the engagement. Others were older, just a few months younger than Lautner and decked out for a date.

Not everyone was thrilled. The football team sweated through morning practice without a girl so much as glancing at them. “I kind of want him to leave,” groused freshman football player C.J. Arch.

Arch’s friend Jayden Korber, also a freshman, looked on the bright side: Lautner “brought all these new girls to town,” he said. “I’ll just do the clean-up work.”

By afternoon, it was humid and boring. Nothing to see except the brick exterior of their school. Hannah Rice, 14, mentioned that her mom had contacted the production company to offer up the family’s house. “It would have been cool to say he slept in my bed,” Hannah said. “I’d start drooling.”

Then squeals, and a chorus erupted:

“I would have stolen his clothes.”

“I would have stolen his underwear!”

“I would have stolen him! I’d have locked him in my closet and not let him go!”

As giggles subsided, reality seemed to suck the air out of their fun. “He’s so close,” Amber Beemer said. “But you can’t get him.”

Fans Meet Taylor Lautner in Pittsburgh Area

The local ABC affiliate reports

“Many people — mostly young ladies — were up at 6 a.m. Monday and hoping for a peek at “Abduction” star Taylor Lautner on the set at Hampton High School in Hampton Township. “I heard that students made their parents change vacation plans. They couldn’t be out of town,” Principal Jeff Finch said. The movie studio Lionsgate is using the school’s name, band, cheerleaders and dance team in “Abduction.” The wrestling coach even helped train Lautner for a scene.”

During his lunch break Taylor came over and greeted fans waiting on the sidelines.  Lexiconer Cathy got her photo taken with Taylor (see above).

Taylor Lautner: Go, Go, Power Werewolf…

Sorry, couldn’t resist. It seems that we have the Blue Power Ranger to thank for bringing us Taylor Lautner. Last night on Letterman Taylor Lautner revealed:

“I was doing martial arts and my karate instructor was in the business and he’s the one who got me started…He was actually the Blue Power Ranger for a year.”

Anyone want to guess which Blue Ranger it was? There are almost 20 possible answers.
